It may not have gone his way tonight, but how things have changed in the space of a year for Luke Littler.

This time 12 months ago, he needed to come through a qualifying tournament to book his place in the 2023 UK Open.

Then aged 16, Littler won three matches in the main draw to reach the last 64, where he lost to eventual semi-finalist Adam Gawlas.

More than 150 players will be hoping to lift the UK Open trophy in Minehead on Sunday, including all eight who are involved in tonight's Premier League event in Exeter.

One win turns it around and you feel part of it and that has turned into a runner-up last week and a winner tonight. Nathan Aspinall was good under pressure tonight.

Rob Cross missed some doubles in the final but you need that little bit of luck.

You've got to be good enough often enough to win games in the Premier League and Aspinall was excellent tonight.

  4. 'I'm over the moon'published at 22:53 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February

Final: Nathan Aspinall 6-2 Rob Cross

Premier League week five winner Nathan Aspinall talking to Sky Sports: "It was a slow start to the season and last week was massive for me. I made the decision tonight to forget about double 16 because I miss it so many times so I went for double tops, and I missed it a few times, but I hit it more times than not. I'm just very happy. The last few weeks I've really dug deep. Everybody knows I'm a fighter and I've been down in the first three weeks but a final and a win in the past two weeks, I'm over the moon.

"I was doubting myself, massively. Me and Peter [Wright] were getting a lot of criticism on social media for being put in the Premier League, and you know what I'm like, I like proving people wrong. That was my plan and it didn't start off like that. I was a bit down in the dumps but I think I've shown my fighting spirit in the past two weeks. Granted, I haven't performed at the level that I know I'm capable of, but I dug deep last week and tonight was the same. The win last week against Michael Smith has kickstarted my season.

"I know it has been my finishing. I know that when I'm on it nobody can touch me with my scoring, it is ridiculous. I am not a guy who averages 28% over seven games on doubling, why is that happening? I looked at it and double 16 wasn't happening for me. I've played on that for probably the last 10 years of my career. I changed it up. That has been the key moment.

"It has been so tough. This game is really, really hard. I have been struggling with form and I am in the hardest tournament that there is in our sport. I've been fighting with my own game but you've seen over the past two weeks that I am a fighter. I love this game and I love this opportunity I've been given by the PDC.

"The Premier League is so tight. It is so close. Even Peter, he's playing well again. It's going to come down to the odd leg and night. We are the best eight players in the world and we are proving it. The standard every week is exceptional."

Final: Nathan Aspinall 6-2 Rob Cross

A superb performance from Nathan Aspinall, who is rather giddy on the stage. He's jumping round in excitement and then throws his flights into the crowd.

Rob Cross misses three darts at double to get another leg back, and that leaves Aspinall with 40 needed.

The Stockport man comes up and nails double tops for the win.

Brilliant from Aspinall, who goes one better than week four in Newcastle.

    He can't, can he?

There's another gesture to the crowd and there's a little nod and clap of appreciation from Nathan Aspinall.

Final: Nathan Aspinall 5-1 Rob Cross

Rob Cross is up and running.

He takes out 80, with double 10 for the leg. He stretches his arms out and turns to the crowd in a slightly ironic manner.

There's a smile and fist pump between the two players too.

Nathan Aspinall will throw for the match.

Rob Cross gets six darts into the nine-darter and there's an increase in volume as the Exeter crowd get to their feet.

There's then a few smatterings of disappointed boos as Cross misses treble 19.

He is left with 86 but can only find 70 and he gets punished.

It is sublime from Nathan Aspinall, taking out 160 for the second time this evening to go 5-0 up.

He's one away from a first nightly win of the season.

Final: Nathan Aspinall 4-0 Rob Cross

Oooh! Nathan Aspinall leaves 167 and the Exeter crowd are on their feet as he lands treble 20, treble 19 but he finds the outer bull rather than the bull.

Rob Cross also gets a chance at bullseye off 158 but is also in the 25.

Both players then miss darts at double four for the leg, before Aspinall returns and busts when he tries to find double two.

Cross can't capitalise, finding single two and then single one for no score.

Aspinall finally mops up to break again and go 4-0 up.

Final: Nathan Aspinall 2-0 Rob Cross

Nathan Aspinall is down at 47 after nine darts. He's not under pressure though with Rob Cross back on 183.

It's a good job as he misses two darts at doubles.

    An early break.

  15. Aspinall holdspublished at 22:24 Greenwich Mean Time 29 February

Final: Nathan Aspinall 1-0 Rob Cross

A reminder that before last week in Newcastle Nathan Aspinall had zero points. He now has six and will be in the top four if he wins this final. It is quite the turnaround.

He has two darts at double 10 and his first is absolutely wild and gets a grimace from The Asp. A little adjustment on the oche and he buries it in the middle of the bed. A solid hold.

These two met in the semi-finals in Newcastle last week and Nathan Aspinall picked up a 6-4 victory.

They've played each other 10 times since 2018 and they've both won five.

    There's nothing to split them.

Who will claim their first nightly win of the season? It would be Cross' first in this format of the Premier League.
