Dimitri got out in front and I think that was key.

For him to win that final, he will have known he needed Luke to drop his level - and Luke did.

And that's when Dimitri took his chances. He almost cost himself but he got over the line in the end.

Credit to him - when you've missed match darts, it's a huge victory. He dug in deep and played his own game. It's not to everyone's tastes but it's got him the title.

  3. 'Grandad, I've got gold!'published at 22:40 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Result: Van den Bergh 11-10 Humphries

An emotional UK Open champion Dimitri Van den Bergh speaking on ITV4:

"First of all, everybody, he [Humphries] showed again why he is the world champion.

"There was a moment when I was 10-7 or 10-8 up and I was like 'I'm one leg away' and I just lost it.

"I lost my guts but all of a sudden it turned around. I've got to say my grandad passed away two years ago and this is my first major win since - this is for him.

"You win some, you lose some, you have to dig deep and try, it's very simple, this year I've always been a bit dodgy about sports psychologists - they were probably my last choice if I wanted to get better and stronger but I said 'give it a go'.

"And right here, right now I really think I made the right choice. Luke also told me it works and right here I've got gold - grandad I've got gold!"

  4. Humphries 'gutted' but 'proud' of fightbackpublished at 22:35 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Result: Van den Bergh 11-10 Humphries

UK Open final runner-up Luke Humphries speaking on ITV4:

"I've had a long five days on the road and I am absolutely shattered.

"I was very lucky to get two darts [to win it] - the crowd were amazing towards me and I'm not used to that! So thank you.

"I'm obviously gutted to miss those two darts but Dimitri played a good game, a couple of big shots at the start really hurt, and I did my best.

"I gave everything, I really didn't play well. It might not have been the best game in the world but it gave great entertainment and I'm really proud of the way I played."

Asked about ticking off the UK Open, one of the few gaps in his major trophy resume, Humphries laughs: "Yep, next year!"

The Belgian gets away with a couple of really poor darts near the end as Luke Humphries misses his chance.

The Belgian gets the crowd right on his back by taking forever to begin this 19th leg.

  15. DVDB one leg from titlepublished at 22:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 10-8 Humphries

Unbelievable from DVDB who has totally calmed himself despite letting that big lead slip.

He has one dart at tops to break the Humphries throw - and hits it.

    One leg from the title.

  16. Van den Bergh edges back in frontpublished at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 9-8 Humphries

Massive maximum from Dimitri Van den Bergh just to settle his nerves.

He should hold his throw - he has six darts to take out 141 with Humphries further back.

But the Belgian hits just 44 to pile the pressure on himself. Then takes out 97 with two darts. Superb composure after putting himself behind the 8-ball somewhat.

    Van den Bergh 8-8 Humphries

Luke Humphries has the darts in leg 16, a great chance for the world number one to level this final up.

And he does so with a 15-dart leg. Basically down to a best of five now for the title.

What an important, dramatic leg that was.

Luke Humphries was 7-2 down, remember.

A bounce out on treble 19 costs Luke Humphries 57 points early in leg 15.

Dimitri Van den Bergh rubs salt into the wounds by hitting the same target - twice.

But then a bounce out for the Belgian too - although his only costs him 20.

He's first to a finish but hits the wire on tops - and Humphries takes out 116!

We have a final on our hands now, folks.
