And there's the reason Evans has to take the opportunities he gets.

Because Luke Humphries can rattle through holds of throw, like he's just done.

    Humphries 2-0 Evans

Another shot at bull for Evans goes awry to try to check out 167.

Then, after both players miss several chances at double, Luke Humphries finds the very top corner of double four, again with his final dart of the three, to go 2-0 up.

Ricky Evans missed three darts at double 17 in that leg - never an easy target but he has to take those chances to have any chance in this.

  3. Humphries takes high-quality openerpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Humphries 1-0 Evans

Ricky Evans has the crowd back on their feet - thanks to his darts.

Three successive 140s give him a sniff of breaking the Humphries throw in the opening leg... but he misses the bullseye to check out 87.

And the world number one does what world number ones do - takes out tops with the last dart in hand.

    Humphries v Evans

Much like the first semi-final, there's a party atmosphere for the walk-ons with this game too.

Ricky Evans' YMCA is followed by Luke Humphries' 'Cake by the Ocean' to get the fans on their feet.

  5. David v Goliath for a spot in finalpublished at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Humphries v Evans

Luke Humphries has dominated the game of darts for the past six months.

Ricky Evans is in his first PDC major ranking event semi-final.

Right then, so who will Dimitri be facing in the final?

  7. 'Damon was toughest draw I could get'published at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

Result: Van den Bergh 11-6 Heta

Dimitri Van den Bergh, speaking to ITV4 after reaching the UK Open final:

"I'm happy, at the moment I'm not showing it because I had to beat one of my closest friends/family. For me that was the hardest game, Damon is the toughest draw I can get, it doesn't matter what tournament.

"I'm proud to be in here because it also means I'm in the Grand Slam, which hasn't happened for a few years.

"I've got to go back on the board and try to get myself prepared for the next game, whoever it is. I will be more relaxed and chilled, I know I can do it. I've got energy.

"I've already had to play two games today so it's new for me, but I have energy and that's to my advantage."

  8. GAME! SHOT! AND THE MATCH!published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 11-6 Heta

Three darts at double 18 to seal a final spot - and Dimitri Van den Bergh nails the first one.

From 6-6 the Belgian did an absolute number on his mate, winning five successive legs.

He will face Luke Humphries or Ricky Evans in the final later tonight.

  9. Postpublished at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 10-6 Heta

DVDB begins the next leg with a 180 - if he holds his throw, he's in the final.

Damon Heta has come from behind, well behind, in three of his earlier matches but this would top the lot.

  10. Postpublished at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 10-6 Heta

Heta's game is being really hindered by Van den Bergh's slow pace.

The Australian looks visibly frustrated - and he's one leg from the exit door after the Belgian breaks again thanks to a third dart at double 20 just sneaking in.

    Van den Bergh 9-6 Heta

    Mark Webster
Former BDO world champion on ITV4

This could be done in double quick time if Damon Heta isn't careful.

  12. Postpublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 9-6 Heta

Big couple of minutes ahead for Damon Heta who simply has to hold his throw in leg 16.

Re: 19:30 and the anagram... "Vegan 'nd Herb" kinda works, and sounds like an eco-friendly pop-up restaurant or a clean-talking comedy duo.

Nice try, John - but you've missed out the 'V' in Van den Bergh buddy... I don't think we're beating Herb 'nd Vegan or Driven Midnight Bear to be honest...

  14. Van den Bergh two legs from finalpublished at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 9-6 Heta

Right now, Dimitri Van den Bergh is bossing the battle of the room-mates, proving the Chandler to Damon Heta's Joey.

Another double 18 finish seals a third leg on the spin - and DVDB is just two legs from the final. First to 11, don't forget.

(Chandler was the far superior room-mate to Joey, right?)

  15. DVDB goes two in frontpublished at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 8-6 Heta

The newly-christened Driven Midnight Bear lives up to his name, with a driven display in leg 13 to move back ahead.

Damon Heta narrowly misses the bullseye to check out 170 in the following leg - and Van den Bergh capitalises with treble 17, double 18 to take out 87.

Back-to-back legs - and a break of throw - for the Belgian.

Dimitri van den Bergh >> Driven Midnight Bear. Not quite as catchy as 'The Heat', but he can have it for a small admin fee.

    Great anagram work, Rob.

  17. Heta level againpublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 6-6 Heta

Not surprisingly for a man who has cultivated such a classic handlebar moustache, Damon Heta is unflustered by such tactics.

Double 18 seals a tidy hold of throw for the hirsute Aussie.

  18. What a finish from DVDBpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March

    Van den Bergh 6-5 Heta

With 132 needed, Dimitri Van den Bergh goes bullseye, treble 14 and double top.

Sensational checkout from the Dreammaker who is slowing this match right down to his more measured pace.

    Herb 'nd Vegan

    Aidan, Belfast

Given Damon Heta's nickname, 'Heat' is an anagram of his surname, we challenged you to create one for Dimitri Van den Bergh out of his surname... this is definitely the best effort and would work great if he's not a meat-eater...

    Van den Bergh 5-5 Heta

Van den Bergh has reached three previous PDC major finals, winning the 2020 World Matchplay and finishing runner-up the following year as well as coming second at the 2021 World Series Finals.

The semi-finals, meanwhile, are new ground for Damon Heta, ranked 11th on the PDC Order of Merit - but he squares this final back up at 5-5 at the second mini-interval.
