"It's been a different journey over the past year but without my coach, my team and my family I wouldn't be here."

On 2021, a year where she has passed her driving test, achieved straight As in her higher exams and now won Paralympic bronze: "It's been a really good year! I was really nervous before tonight but my coach calmed my nerves.

"I'll be back for the relay on the Sunday which I'm so excited about."

Multiple gold medallist Liz Johnson speaking on Channel 4: "An incredible swim there from Toni Shaw.

"She knew she had the potential to win a medal but you still have to deliver. Now she's done that, she's got a great opportunity to build on it.

"She's missed the British record by three one hundredths of a second."

It's Paralympic bronze for Toni Shaw at her first Games, and she wins it with a lifetime best too.

Gold goes to Australia's Lakeisha Patterson - but only just. A storming last 100m from Hungary's Zsofia Konkoly saw her reel the Australian in, but Patterson managed to touch the wall just 0.08secs ahead to win the Paralympic title.

Rio 2016 gold medallist Alice Tai speaking on Channel 4: "The 400m freestyle is the longest event in the pool - it's really tough.

"Athletes tend to pace themselves in the heats and I know Toni Shaw went fast in those. I do think though that she is definitely in contention for a medal here - I'm just not sure what colour it will be."

ParalympicsGB cyclists Steve Bate speaking to Channel 4 after winning silver in the B 4000m team pursuit: "It's disappointing to have come away with a silver medal. We gave it our best but when the bike goes as quick as the Dutch did, you have to take your hat off and stand in awe of them. We set a massive PB in the qualifiers so now we go again in the time trial.

Pilot Adam Duggleby: "We knew that four minutes was what we were aiming for. We gave everything we had in qualifying but that showed in the final. We didn't have the same legs.

"We love riding our bikes so to come here and enjoy riding round the track in front of the world, keeps us going. It's hard to not have our families here, it's not the same but we did the best we could and hopefully they're proud of what we've done."

Jon-Allan Butterworth, winner of Paralympic gold and two silvers, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Sarah Storey is a formidable teammate. She's almost perfect to be honest - it's quite annoying! She's a real force to be reckoned with and she's amazing.

"With our disabilities in C5, the start is harder to achieve. She is able to get out of the saddle with her adapted set-up. After that, keeping control at speed is a bit trickier than for a person with two hands.

"Crystal Lane-Wright gets faster and faster every Games but she's going up against Sarah who is creating a legacy here. Crystal put in another amazing ride, set a PB and that's all you can do.

"We're just living in the time of Sarah Storey who is dominating the event.

"Family makes a massive difference so without family there it will be really hard for her. To achieve that result without family there, she will be really proud of that."

Visually impaired Fitzpatrick will continue her career on the snow with a new guide, while Kehoe - Fitzpatrick's guide since 2015 - will resume her career in the British Army.

More from Gaz Choudhry on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It’s all about preparation. If you get it right then performances will come. We do all our game planning and it’s about execution on the day. We have a mix of experience and young guys in the team.

"It’s always the aim to go out and win gold. But it is an unusual tournament, circumstances that no one has experienced before.

"If we are successful, it would mean everything for wheelchair basketball."

    BBC Radio 5 Live

GB men's wheelchair basketball coach Haj Bhania has been unable to travel to Tokyo after testing positive for Covid-19.

In his absence, Gaz Choudhry has taken on a player-coach role but assured BBC Radio 5 Live that Bhania will still be heavily involved.

“Firstly, as a team it's such a shame that Haj can't be here. He's absolutely involved in all our game planning and our overall team even though he's not physically here.

“Haj will not speak directly during the games but he will be connected to the bench. I’ll be doing the game coaching myself. We’ve got plans lined up for different scenarios. I’ll probably play a little bit less but it is situational and we’ll have to see how the tournament rolls.

“It’s not been done before so it makes it exciting.”
