    Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
Eleven-time Paralympic champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

These early medals do make a difference.

There will be a big medal board outside ParalympicsGB HQ. The host nation will set a timetable that best fits their athletes so when you have no control of the medal events and days they are on, it really motivates everybody.

They will be waiting for their competition day and each sport will have a competition within itself. The athletes will want to get their names on that medal board.

    Rob Hatch
BBC Radio 5 live commentator in Tokyo

You can die a quick death in these races if you go out too hard too soon.

That's what the British will be hoping but the Netherlands set a new world record in the heats - three seconds ahead of Bate and Duggleby.

    Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
Eleven-time Paralympic champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a really selfless thing to do to be a pilot.

It's only relatively recently that the guide in athletics has been given a medal as well and I think the equal recognition is important.

You have to have a really good pilot on the front and Adam Duggleby is a very good cyclist in his own right.

  11. 'So much trust'published at 06:59 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

    Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
Eleven-time Paralympic champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you look at the speeds these guys go, they're hitting 60km/h. There must be a huge amount of trust from the visually impaired cyclist in their pilot sitting in front of them.

Even if there is some field of vision for the athlete, their head is on the back of the pilot in front of them. You can't see any of the track and the rider at the front is the one doing the steering.

  13. 'Please be inspired'published at 06:53 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

Paralympic silver medallist Crystal Lane-Wright speaking to Channel 4: "I don't think I've reached my full potential. I think I can keep getting better.

"As much as I'm up against Sarah, it's me against me. I can only control what I can do. To get such a good PB this morning, I'm so pleased.

"During the pandemic, it's been so easy to become isolated and become self-centred so if there's one person that watches this and thinks "I can do it" and that I've inspired them, that's more than any medal I've ever won.

"Paralympics sport is still in its infancy - please be inspired!"

  14. 'She's still developing'published at 06:51 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

British trike racer Hannah Dines on Channel 4: "She's won a gold and set a world record. She's still going and still developing at 43. It's amazing. It's not enough for Sarah.

"It's too much for me, I can't string a sentence together. To see her strength in action completely blows my mind.

    "Well done Sarah!"

'Storey has had huge impact on Paralympic movement'published at 06:49 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

    Rachael Latham
BBC Paralympic reporter and former Para-swimmer

It goes without saying that Sarah Storey has had a huge impact on the Paralympic movement; not only because her achievements have grown the profile of Paralympic sport and changed public perception of disability, but she has also been nurturing young disabled talent behind the scenes since her early 20s.

Most people that age are still figuring out what they want from life, but she already knew, so she spent her spare time helping other disabled people realise their potential.

To win 14 Paralympic gold medals, there will have been times when she had to be selfish. She is not easily distracted, she can single-mindedly focus on the goal at hand and she has painstaking attention to detail.

Her physical sporting talent is exceptional, but I think it is her mental attitude is that makes her a cut above the rest.

It was absolutely incredible. It was absolutely stunning. There was a bit of me who wished she'd gone for the full distance so I could see what world record she might put down.

I feel a bit emotional actually because I know how much it means.
