You couldn't have written the timetable better for ParalympicsGB.

To get a gold medal on day one sets the tone for everyone else. The whole team is willing Sarah Storey on to win three gold medals here.

Her life is sport and you want the medals to come along for that dedication.

More from Sarah Storey: "It's hard to put into words where we are as the Paralympics.

An emotional Sarah Storey speaking to Channel 4: "It's quite overwhelming. Being in an empty stadium we have to be prepared to race like that. Once you finish racing, it hits you that the stands are actually empty.

"Racing in a pandemic is hard. When you want to celebrate with people, you realise you can't. Of course you can celebrate with the team but there is a bigger team behind us and they're really missed."

We know the lift people get during the Olympics and how the nation feels so positive about sport. For the Paralympics, we've got people who watch every four years and those who live and breathe Paralympic sport.

It's just amazing that we've got a gold medal so early on day one.

  16. How has Covid affected preparations?published at 07:21 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

ParalympicsGB chef de mission Penny Briscoe speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "The thing we’ve reflected on is that the measures we’ve put in place for the past 18 months are the same as we have adopted here.

"We've almost translated them from the daily training of the athletes. It comes down to the basics of hands, face, space, daily testing, daily health monitoring. We're trying to keep ourselves to ourselves as a nation and limit interaction with others.

"We've come here to compete and do well and to do that we need to be fit and healthy."

  17. 'Tear in my eye'published at 07:20 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

    Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
Eleven-time Paralympic champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

I've got a tear in my eye because I've known Sarah Storey for such a long time on an individual level.

It's such a shame that there are so few fans, especially as cycling is a sport where there is always a real block of family and friends but they can't be there.

I know her group will just be so ecstatic for her.

  18. Postpublished at 07:19 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

As I mentioned earlier, this is Sarah Storey's eighth Paralympics, but it's her first without her parents in the stands watching.

With no fans allowed at the Games, they will be watching on TV back home, as will Storey's two children, Louisa and Charlie.

No doubt the celebrations are under way at Chez Storey!

  19. 'Remarkable by Crystal Lane-Wright'published at 07:16 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

    Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson
Eleven-time Paralympic champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's really tough when you have two British cyclists in the final. It's really important we recognise that it's a remarkable achievement by Crystal Lane-Wright to finish in the silver medal.

It's just unfortunate for her that she had to go up against the unstoppable Sarah Storey in the final.

  20. Postpublished at 07:16 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

The medal ceremony for the women's C5 3000m individual pursuit is currently taking place.

As was the case at the Olympics, athletes are placing the medals around their necks themselves because of Covid-19 protocols.

For the first time at these Games, we hear the British national anthem after Sarah Storey receives her gold medal, Crystal Lane-Wright to her side (socially distanced, of course) with the silver medal.
