BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at London Road: "Maybe the Peterborough fans' confidence [see 19:31] wasn't unfounded. Terrible defending by Swindon as Tommy Rowe and Britt Assombalonga hassle them in the area. It falls to Kyle Vassell and he places in his first ever Posh goal."

There's some suggestion that the Pepe goal may even go down as an Insua OG. Do they have a dubious goals panel in Spain? Luka Modric on the volley, straight into Thibaut Courtois's breadbasket. A yard either side...

AP Sam:, external The degree of diving and flopping and what not in La Liga makes me feel good that I watch the Premier League.

Varun Khurana:, external Diego Costa is going down way too easy, should have been book at least once

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at London Road: "The Peterborough fans are already singing about going to Wembley. Early days though boys. Posh are 1-0 up however after Grant McCann's corner is bundled into the Swindon net by Raphael Branco for an own goal."

Leo, Preston: Michael Robinson, who started his career with Preston, scored against Real Madrid for Osasuna in the 1987 and 1988 La Liga seasons. How's that for another connection!

Joe McCrave: My girlfriend and I enjoying this topic as I'm from Preston and she's from Madrid. Unusually, both consenting to phone-checking this evening at dinner.

Archie, Charlton: I think Real Madrid and Preston have the same amount of England players, three. David Beckham for both, Tom Finney and David Nugent for Preston. Steve McManaman and Laurie Cunningham for Real Madrid.

I'm telling you now, there will be a red card in this game. Not long after Pepe is booked, Alvaro Arbeloa gets involved in some handbags with Atletico's assistant German Burgos. Not sure what Arbeloa is thinking, Burgos looks like he could eat the former Liverpool man. Now what? Diego rakes the back of Ronaldo's calf and goes in the book. More cards than Clinton's.

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher at Deepdale: "There are three changes for Preston from the team that defeated Notts County 2-0 on Saturday, with Keith Keane, Chris Humphrey and veteran striker Kevin Davies all coming in.

"Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies - who once upon a time took North End to a Championship play-off final - makes five changes from 3-1 win over Yeovil. Dorus De Vries, Greg Halford, Dan Harding, Matt Derbyshire and Djamal Abdoun all come in. Absolutely pouring down.

In amongst the excitement of the goal, on 18 minutes, Real Madrid's Iker Casillas passed 700 without conceding a goal. 700! That's nearly 12 hours. And he's not even first-choice any more. He broke the club record in their 1-0 win over Espanyol last month.

You know how we said there was a feisty atmosphere? It's tasty on the pitch too. Don't bank on 22 players seeing out the 90 minutes. Atletico have responded well, but they are repelled by Real.

Real have a lead they richly deserve, though there's a lot of luck about Pepe's strike from range. Ball moved from left to right, the defender is arriving late, striking from just outside the area. It takes a huge deflection off Emiliano Insua, wrong-footing Thibaut Courtois and nestling in the onionbag.

Kevin Davies starts up front for Preston after a three-game ban, but the hosts are without the injured Josh Brownhill.

Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies leaves in-form striker Jamie Paterson on the bench. Jamie Mackie and Simon Cox start up front.

Ooohhhh, where did that come from? Arda Turan gets across his man to head a deep cross towards goal. Iker Casillas is scrambling, diving low to parry.

Amazingly, there are plenty of blue seats inside the Bernabeu tonight. Admittedly, it holds 500,000 in about 10 tiers that stretch into the Madrid night, but you'd think a cup semi against Atletico would be a sell-out, no? I may have exaggerated on the capacity...

  14. Postpublished at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2014

Penalty? Appeals from the home fans when Atletico captain Gabi blocks a header from a Real corner. Did it hit his hand? Hard to say. Either way, it's not given. Pretty frantic start, Real on top.

Andrew, Richill: In 10-15 years time when Michael Laudrup is regarded as one of Europe's premier coaches, we'll look back at Swansea City's decision to sack him on the evening of Tuesday 4 February and laugh at them. Laudrup will make a success of himself in the world of management, and there'll be a lot of clubs very interested in securing his services.

Danger for Atletico. Alvaro Arbloa does the business on the byeline, somehow crossing deep from the right. Ronaldo is arriving, but Juanfran is able to outleap. Some frantic defending concedes a corner, but Luka Modric can't beat the first man. What do they do in training all week?

First sign of Cristiano Ronaldo running at the Atletico defence, but he's snuffed out midway into the opposing half. Atletico, by the way, remain in their traditional red-and-white stripes with blue shorts.

BBC Sport's Paul Fletcher at Deepdale: "Absolutely atrocious conditions for fans making their way to Deepdale to watch the fourth-round replay between Preston and Nottingham Forest. The rain is pouring down and it is a touch on the windy side too.

"Perhaps not surprisingly, the pitch looks a little heavy. Nonetheless, with little other domestic football today the press box is busy. The local newspaper reporter reckons that there are normally about 10 reporters here. There are in excess of 50 tonight."

  19. Postpublished at 19:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2014

Rowdy in Madrid as Real, attacking left to right as I watch on, get down the Atletico left. Nothing doing from a poor cross.

Rian Hoskins:, external Could see Laudrup going in the summer but the timing seems strange with the Europa League and Swansea in a relegation fight.

Ryan Kirkman:, external I wasn't too surprised to see Laudrup go. Swansea have had a fairly poor season and performances have been lacking
