The sun is now out! Four seasons in one final here. Nobby Stiles gets another stern telling off from referee Gottfried Dienst as West Germany have another strong spell now.
Barnaby Heap: True story - my grandfather stood up to celebrate the first goal not realising England were playing in red (nothing to do with three pints before kick off at the fed brewery).
Jack Charlton dives in on halfway and the Germans are almost in, but England are saved by an offside flag. Stay on your feet Jack!
Daniel Beardmore:, external Charlton is the linchpin, the man with the potential to win this for England.
Chris Whyton:, external What a World Cup this has been! It will live long in the memory as the one that had all that bad goalkeeping.
Jonathan Harvey:, external What a player Bobby Moore looks. His anticipation, positioning and distribution is like something from the 21st century (probably).
Bobby Charlton drives into the box right from kick-off, he takes a tumble as Karl-Heinz Schnellinger comes across but there's no real appeal from Bobby.
High-tempo start from England. I wonder what Alf Ramsey had to say at the interval?
We are all set for the second half as the rain comes down again. England get us going...
England fan Chris Benson
Earlier today we told the tale of Chris Benson who had arranged for his office to watch the 1966 final in the office canteen. Here's a further picture from Chris, England fans will be hoping for a positive second half.
Just to remind you, if the scores this afternoon are level after 90 minutes, half an hour's extra time will be played and if the game is still a draw, the final will be replayed at Wembley next Tuesday.
If drawn then, after extra time, lots will be drawn to decide the winner. No, seriously.
Anyone think of a better way to settle a match? We are all ears.
No changes permitted of course so it's the same XI for the full 90 minutes. Or more...
Former England defender Phil Neville
"During Euro 96 the World Cup win was being talked about all the time, with a major tournament back in England for the first time and the song 'Three Lions' everywhere we went talking about '30 years of hurt.'
"Euro 96 was probably our best chance of winning a major tournament since and I can only imagine what it felt like for those players to actually win it at home. They will never be forgotten, they are icons and heroes."
Dave Jepson: Never mind Johnny Haynes - the tragedy of Munich eight years ago meant Duncan Edwards was lost..He would be 29 now, in his prime and surely the captain?
Franz Beckenbauer scored two crackers against the Soviets but England have kept him under wraps so far. Could he yet play a crucial part?
Enjoy the goals of the tournament at the top of the screen as the teams tuck into their half-time brew...
Bobby Charlton driving England forward, Eusebio providing Portugal's cutting edge, Franz Beckenbauer making West Germany tick - these are just three of the stars who have been impressing the English crowds over the past few weeks.
But would they make your best XI of the tournament? Course they would. And unsurprisingly they have also been named in the team chosen by the BBC's World Cup panel of experts.
The panel is comprised of Walter Winterbottom (former England manager), Billy Wright (former England captain), Joe Mercer (manager of Manchester City), Don Revie (manager of Leeds United), Ron Greenwood (manager of West Ham United), Arthur Ellis (leading referee), Tommy Docherty (manager of Chelsea), Ken Aston (former World Cup referee), Johnny Haynes (former England captain), Jimmy Hill (manager of Coventry City) and Danny Blanchflower (former captain of Northern Ireland).
Do you agree with their selection? Or is there a glaring omission from our experts? Let us know using #66final on Twitter on via text on 81111.
And with another 45 minutes of the tournament left (perhaps more with extra-time?), can somebody stake a late claim for inclusion?
All level at the break then. England very much in with a shout...
Alan Ball's cross is just over Jack Charlton - marauding forward - as we enter the last minute of the first half.
Another top save from Gordon Banks! He's keeping England in this. This time he flies through the air to push Uwe Seeler's shot over the top.
He'll have to go a long way to make a better save than that in a World Cup match.
Chance! Roger Hunt latches on to a knockdown and thrashes in a left-footed drive from the corner of the six-yard ox but Hans Tilkowski is right behind it and makes the save.
Martin Peters is then almost in but Wolfgang Weber slams the door on him.
That's not poor goalkeeping! Brilliant reactions from Gordon Banks to beat away Wolfgang Overath's stinging shot, and then smother in the rebound from Siegfried Held.
What a tournament the Leicester man has had. Safe hands.
Marc, Nottingham: Fifa really need to get a grip of the amount of sandwiching going on. It's a disgrace.
