There is definitely signs of great unity in this Mexico team after such a disastrous qualifying campaign. It might have been easy for them to let the frustrations of those two disallowed goals to get the better of them, but they cracked on with the job at hand and got the result they deserved.

Could they be this year's surprise package?

Elieko:, external It is obvious that it is not easy to run with 60 million CFA francs in your pocket. Our defence proves it.

Jessica:, external Guys, I still have hope. But you Lions ought to make an effort.

Aymeric:, external Cameroon pays a heavy price for not having a creative playmaker in midfield.

Hilary:, external African mediocrity on display through Cameroon. No longer Indomitable Lions but useless scarecrows.

A hard-fought victory for Mexico that moves them level with Group A leaders Brazil on three points. Cameroon were poor and largely disjointed throughout.

Surely it is between Mexico and Croatia for second?

"Mexico have been exceptional and have rightly won the game. We saw some terrible refereeing decisions, but the game was a great spectacle. I didn't fancy Mexico before the game but they were outstanding."

Benoit Assou-Ekotto crosses into the area but Mexico again head away. The defence is holding firm and not long to go...

Final change for Mexico as Carlos Salcido comes on for Hector Herrera to take up a few more precious seconds.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 18:53 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Was that the chance for Cameroon? Benjamin Moukandjo directs a bullet header at goal and Guillermo Ochoa dives to superbly deny the striker. So close.

Into stoppage time and the fourth official's board says four minutes of added time with Cameroon in possession. Time for an equaliser?

"That's the first time Cameroon have broken Mexico's back line. But it was a poor cut back, he needed to pick someone out. What an opportunity with three minutes remaining."

  13. Postpublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Mexico's Miguel Layun has been impressive in this game but a lapse of concentration almost proves costly as he is taken out of play by a pass that sends Benjamin Moukandjo free on the right. He crosses low into the area but the ball is stabbed behind by Mexico with Cameroon players lurking.

Liam Hamilton:, external Cameroon's attitude in this game has been appalling. Stop with the histrionics and start showing some responsibility for your performance! Probably don't need to worry about those bonuses.

"The Mexican fans are giving it the big ole, ole, ole. I'm surprised the Cameroon manager hasn't brought on a strike partner for Samuel Eto'o earlier because one defeat in the World Cup and you're in big trouble - especially when you still have to face Brazil. Alex Song has come off. You can tell he hasn't played much football since he joined Barcelona. I think he's gone backwards since his Arsenal days."

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Samuel Eto'o has looked pretty isolated in attack since Mexico's goal and Cameroon coach Volker Finke opts to give him some company, bringing on experienced forward Pierre Webo for the largely ineffective Alex Song.

Song's departure reminds me, actually, of quite an interesting stat. He is one of 28 brothers and sisters. Twenty-eight! Birthdays must be a financial nightmare in that family.

Giovani dos Santos takes the free-kick but it is a poor one as he floats the ball into the area and Cameroon head clear.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:38 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Free-kick to Mexico on the left side of the area as Dany Nounkeu again flies in with a hefty challenge, flattening Marco Fabian. He earns a booking for his efforts.

Jack:, external After the money row I have no idea why Cameroon have even come to Brazil. Mbia seem to be the only one up for this.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Javier Hernandez does indeed come on, replacing goalscorer Oribe Peralta who departs to huge cheers from the buoyant Mexico fans. It is very much a Mexican party in the stands now, with the sound of 'Ole' greeting every pass between green shirts.
