Cameroon break through Benjamin Moukandjo but he curls in a poor, poor ball that was meant for Samuel Eto'o which is over hit and goes out for a goalkick. Javier Hernandez is warming up for Mexico.

"The Cameroon manager has a decision to make. We all know Samuel Eto'o is a great player but what he has offered in this game has been disappointing to say the least. He is not helping out in defending areas and the manager needs to make a decision."

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:31 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Mexico make their first change of the game as Andres Guardado comes off with the versatile Marco Fabian, who plays for Cruz Azul, taking his place for his World Cup debut.

Gregory:, external Oribe Peralta's nickname is "El Cepillo", The Brush. He painted a beautiful goal there.

Dean:, external Finally a well deserved lead for Mexico.

"Mexico deserve that for the decisions that went against them before half-time. They didn't dwell on it, they didn't feel sorry for themselves. They have rolled their sleeves up, got on with it, and now they're ahead."

Finally the deadlock is broken and, on the balance of play, it is a deserved goal for Mexico. Hector Herrera starts the move by feeding a pass to Giovani dos Santos just outside the area and he finds space between two defenders to shoot low at goal. Charles Itandje gets a hand to the shot but fails to hold the ball and Oribe Peralta steals in to sweep home. A real poacher's finish.

Barra:, external This is a travesty to the game I have been following for 50 years. We are not even a game and half into this tournament and it is clear that technology would have ruled three goals valid and one penalty invalid. It would take the referee 40 seconds to run over to a video on the halfway line and change their decisions. In each occasion it was a dead ball situation; what was there to lose? Except a more exciting game and tournament.

  8. CLOSE!published at 18:21 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

    Vanishing spray

Out comes the vanishing spray again as Mexico line up their wall for the free kick, which is pretty central and some 25 yards from goal. Benoit Assou-Ekotto takes it, trying to bend it in but the ball deflects off the wall and just wide.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Hector Moreno is shown the first yellow of the game as he halts the run of Stephane Mbia midway inside the Mexico half following a quick Cameroon break.

Dave:, external The coaches challenge system is an excellent idea. They've had it in the NFL for years. Come on FIFA bring it on.

Martin, St Albans: So Howard Webb doesn't think he and his team will be awarded the World Cup final again - at this rate his chances are improving!

Theo Moss, Buckinghamshire: Video technology would be a welcome addition. Has worked wonderfully in Rugby Union and perhaps players and managers will respect referees and linesmen more.

Another good break from Mexico as Miguel Layuna scampers forward again before feeding the ball to Giovani dos Santos, who turns and attempts to curl a pass towards the far post. He over hits it though and it goes out for a goalkick. Layun, meanwhile, is down on the floor, having been clattered by Dany Nounkeu soon after passing to Dos Santos.

"If that chance had fallen to Javier Hernandez then Mexico would be celebrating the lead now."

  14. CLOSE!published at 18:11 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

A patient start to the second half almost pays dividends as Mexico build slowly before Giovani dos Santos cushions a pass to put Oribe Peralta through on goal, but the striker fires a shot straight at Charles Itandje. Should have done better, time for Javier Hernandez perhaps?

  15. KICK-OFFpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 13 June 2014

Cameroon make a change at the break as Dany Nounkeu comes on for Cedric Djeugoue at right-back, before they get the second half under way.

That two-challenge system Dave mentions below was Sepp Blatter's proposal recently to introduce video technology, external to allow managers to challenge two decisions per match.

Is this game proving such a rule is needed? Time to see what the second half brings...

Adam, Manchester: We really don't know how lucky we are in the Premier League. The standard of officiating in this tournament is infuriatingly abysmal in comparison.

Dave, Chesham: Sepp Blatter's two-challenge system looks a good call after those decisions!

Dan, London: Looking forward to the half-time entertainment when they start building the ark. THAT is rain.

Simon:, external Cameroon adopting my junior school tactics - everyone in your own box, hoof the ball as far as you can when it comes near.

Joe:, external Should be goals in the second half. Both defences have looked ragged at times and Dos Santos and Eto'o have looked sharp.

Peter:, external If anyone was wondering, Mexican fans doing their usual thing of chanting a naughty word when the opposition goalkeeper takes a kick.

"I hate talking about officials but they have been shocking in this game. The second disallowed goal in particular, it's a corner which is swung in and a Cameroon player flicks it on and Giovani dos Santos scores. There was nothing wrong with it."

Deletsu:, external Fifa should bring in a new rule where abysmal officials can be substituted! This is just horrendous.

Matthew:, external The rule of only one set of officials per country is silly. Some are just not up to it. Two games in and five game-changing errors.

Rory:, external Really surprised Mexico aren't missing Chicharito more. Can see him coming on in the second half and grabbing a couple.
