Australia goalscorer Tim Cahill: "Chile got in twice and punished us but after that you could see their legs were going and we knew we could get something from this game.

"We really stood up strong. Not a lot went our way and it showed.

"It's all about defining moments. This is the stage to do it and when you're called upon you have to show up.

"We showed a bit of fear but we got in their faces. We showed some aggression, we'll learn from this and go into the next game positive."

John:, external Unlucky to the Aussies. A good game but they lacked that bit of quality to get the second.

Adam:, external Ben Halloran has to start next game. Great energy. Him and Leckie crossing to Cahill could cause problems for Spain and Netherlands.

"Even though Spain have been beaten 5-1 by Netherlands tonight, I still think we've seen two sides that will go out from this group in Chile and Australia.

"Chile cannot play the way they have and not concede at least two or three against Spain. The Chile manager says they do not compromise in the way they play, but let's see if they don't against the bigger sides. Unless they play a lot better than they have tonight, then Spain and Netherlands will go through in this group - I have no doubts about that."

I thought Martin Offiah might be the only Wigan man to score at a World Cup before tonight but it turns out current Everton centre-half Antolin Alcaraz scored in 2010, when Paraguay drew 1-1 against Italy.

"Jean Beausejour has made a huge difference since he came on. He has provided proper width and has got in time and time again. I think the Chile manager has overcooked his celebrations a little bit it's been an uncomfortable night for Chile. You feel for Australia because they have been fantastic in this second half."

Has a Wigan player ever scored in a World Cup? He has now.

Cruel. A cruel blow for Australia who don't deserve that.

Chile make it three right at the death as Mat Ryan does well to save from sub Mauricio Pinilla, but Wigan winger Jean Beausejour picks up the pieces and lashes into the corner from 20 yards. Cracking finish.

Saul:, external If the Aussies nick an equaliser that would let Spain off the hook!

"Australia started to contain Chile and to stop them playing, with no real intention on getting anything out of the game themselves. If they had stuck to their guns and gone out and done what they said they would do - which was to go toe-to-toe with Chile, then they would have got more out of the game.

"Australia's play in the second half, the way they have gone out and had a go, has suited their style much better. They have revealed Chile's weaknesses."

The fourth official from Panama has to tell the Chile bench to sit down as they all get a bit jittery. We are into the final few minutes now and Chile are looking like doing enough to pick up three points.

Spain will take this though. Their goal difference was taking a pasting after 15 minutes.

Ash:, external I like the idea of dominating possession but Chile overplay up front. They need to be more direct.

"It's just a complete role reversal, it's quite incredible but we have gone from one extreme to the other. If I had said after 15 minutes I wasn't sure how this game would end up you would have carted me off in a straitjacket. It's been a strange game and let's hope there is another twist in it."

Apologies, I earlier said that Mile Jedinak had come off for Australia, my eyesight failed me as it was in fact our friend Tommy Oar.

We are into the last 20 minutes and Australia have earned all the credit for this second-half showing. Chile quite the opposite. Looked world beaters for the first 20 minutes, road-sweepers for the last 30.
