"Tim Cahill gets up again, very much like for the goal he scored. That was a great opportunity for him and that's why you could see he was so disappointed to miss. Australia should be be level."

It's a simple but effective tactic. Hit Tim Cahill. Chile can't deal with him in the air at all and he floats another header on to the roof of the net.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 00:27 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Wigan have come to the party, as Jean Beausejour replaces Jorge Valdivia. Australia also make a change as young striker Ben Halloran replaces Mile Jedinak.

Matthew Leckie goes on a lung-busting solo run for Australia, before running out of steam, confidence and competence inside the penalty area and falling over.

Mark Milligan is then booked for nipping at the heels of Alexis Sanchez.

I heard Tim Vickery on 5 live earlier saying that Chile would struggle against the high ball and they've certainly proved that tonight. Tim Cahill is a threat for any defence in the air but Matthew Leckie has now nodded over the top. Into the last 25 minutes.

    Great effort!

A fine cross from the right opens up Australia for the first time this half, Eduardo Vargas stabs the ball past Mat Ryan but Alex Wilkinson doesn't give up on it and clears from off the line. Goalline technology confirms it didn't go in...

"Claudio Bravo picked the right one to stop - he got away with the offside goal before but showed strong hands to palm that shot to the side so that the player coming on to it, Mark Bresciano, had no angle to shoot from.

"Chile know they need a third goal, there is a sense of nerves and concern, they don't fancy that they can keep Australia out. It's almost a role reversal - with Chile now guilty of the same defensive lapses Australia made in the first half."

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 00:18 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

He's had a long time out injured and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal lasts an hour before he is replaced by Felipe Gutierrez. Just before that Australia had another good attack.

There's more goals in this as we enter the final third.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 00:15 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Australia are really giving this everything, and only a fine save from Claudio Bravo keeps Chile ahead,

Tim Cahill again causes all sorts of chaos in the middle and Marco Bresciano, coming in behind him, cracks in a left-footed shot which Bravo claws out one-handed. Top effort from Australia.

"The Chile goalkeeper does not cover himself in any sort of glory there, it is offside but he doesn't know that. Tim Cahill just mistimed his run. That is the difference maybe between a midfielder and a centre-forward.

"And earlier Australia should have had a penalty - you could see it straight away - I looked at Tim and though there must be a reason he hasn't made the connection with the ball. Gonzalo Jara half spun him round, there was certainly an air of guilt about him.

"But that is all Australia have to do - get the ball back in the box with some degree of quality and Cahill will cause Chile problems."

  13. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 00:10 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Are there many better headers of the ball than Tim Cahill? He bullets in a brilliant header to pull Australia level - but no! The flag is up. And he was offside.

    Brilliant connection though.

  14. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 00:09 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

Tim Cahill is sniffing around after a left-wing cross for Australia and he is just eased off the ball by Gonzalo Jara - who had a handful of shirt for sure. Cahill is screaming for a penalty but referee Noumandiez Doue is not interested.

"There is an air of caution from Australia, they clearly do not want to start the second half in the same way they started the first. But you also sensed from the way they went off at half-time that there is a bit of belief that there could be something in this game for them."

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 00:08 British Summer Time 14 June 2014

It's not Bailey Wright though, stand down PNE fans. Former Hearts defender Ryan McGowan is on in place of the crocked Ivan Franjic.

Australian winger Tommy Oar has been getting plenty of heat on social media during that first half, but what do we know about the 22-year-old?

I can tell you that he made the grade at Brisbane Roar and now plays in the Netherlands. He's only 5ft 7ins tall but as he says, "Oscar and Eden Hazard are good enough to avoid the physical aspect of the game..."

Former England defender and BBC pundit Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand has been answering a selection of your questions on the BBC Sport Facebook page., external

Here are a selection of his replies:

Did you see that Spain result coming tonight?

I don't think anybody would have called that result today if they were being serious!

How much pressure do you feel playing at a World Cup?

It is a huge pressure. You know all the country is watching you and expectations are high and that you need to deliver for them. The team that deals with that pressure best goes onto win it.

Can a European team win the World Cup?

I think it is possible. Anything is possible in a World Cup. I don't think the conditions are as bad as everybody expected. If the rain continues then it evens things out a bit.

Who will win the World Cup?

Before a ball was kicked I went for Brazil. They didn't play particularly well in the first game but they won 3-1. Argentina have a chance as well.

Can England beat Italy and Uruguay?

If they do, then I think most people in the country will be surprised. Will they qualify? I think yes. Both those teams are very dangerous, especially with Suarez for Uruguay and Italy with all their experience.
