Opta sports: "3.5 - There have been an average of 3.5 goals per game so far. The highest rate in a single tournament is 5.4 in 1954. Excitement."

"We've got a game! We were hard on Australia at the beginning of the game but they were very poor. They have now improved their defending, the communication is far better and they are pushing men forward.

"Matthew Leckie has been decent at times and they are vulnerable, Chile. There is much more positivity and belief from Australia and the goal came just at the right time for the neutral."

Paddy:, external Australia need to get the ball to Matthew Leckie more. Every time he gets it Australia look like doing something.

Australia have scored nine goals in World Cup finals, and Tim Cahill has bagged four of them. Some strike rate.

The Socceroos have had a good spell since that shock goal and they fancy an equaliser before the break.

John:, external Someone donate their legs to Tim Cahill so he can come back to Goodison!

Apparently as a child Tim Cahill was a reluctant footballer and his mum had to drag him on to the pitch to play. I bet he's glad she did now. What a story.

"I played with Tim Cahill for two and a half years and he used to do that every week. Up against Gary Medel there was only going to be one winner.

"Cahill has that ability to hang in the air and with those neck muscles fired a marvellous header back across Claudio Bravo. Australia are back in the game. Or rather they are in a game they weren't previously in!"

Never write Australia off. At any sport. They have a winning culture and they almost fashion an equaliser, with Tim Cahill shooting low and hard but Claudio Bravo makes the save with his shins.

Tim Cahill does what Tim Cahill does best!

It comes completely out of the blue, Australia's record goalscorer climbing easily above Cardiff man Gary Medel at the back post to crash in a brilliant header.

He's now scored in three World Cups!

"You do wonder how Australia qualified, such is the lack of quality in their side. When they get possession - which is not very often - they haven't got an outlet and nor do they have the quality to keep it. We've already seen frustration from Tim Cahill and Mile Jedinak stretching out for challenges because they cannot make any impression on this game. When you are used to playing with better players it does not help."

Lovely run down the left from Jorge Valdivia sees him trick inside two men but his cross is poor and easily blocked. The tempo has slowed up as Chile, perhaps not surprisingly, settle on a 2-0 lead at the break.

"Mile Jedinak has been outstanding for Crystal Palace this season but it really is very difficult without quality around him here. Chile like to make the pitch big and play in the holes, but they are also good on the counter-attack - as we saw against England. You have to keep your shape and make sure you can chase the game - clearly Australia are not good enough to do either."

Alexis Sanchez backs Jason Davidson in to the box and the Heracles left-back almost concedes a penalty with a rash tackle but the Barcelona striker stays on his feet.

Mile Jedinak then dishes out some midfield punishment on Charles Aranguiz. The Aussies are frustrated.

Nicholas:, external Don't forget Spain conceded five so how many Chile score in this game could prove vital.

Mark:, external Look on the bright side Australia, you still have to play whipping boys Spain.

Australia centre-half Matt Spiranovic almost coughs up possession inside the penalty area but he just about gets away with it. Chile have had 72% possession so far and are thoroughly enjoying themselves, as Arturo Vidal shoots wide at the end of a neat move.
