"Robin van Persie might think himself one lucky boy. He was looking at that card thinking he could get a red there. It looked like an elbow from up here but he tried to hold him off and poked him in the eye. The referee was spot on."

  2. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

An action-packed start to the second half. Tim Cahill has the ball in the back of the net but the goal is ruled out for a foul. Then Robin van Persie is booked for a foul on Matthew Spiranovic that will rule him out of the next game against Chile.

Back under way. Can the Netherlands re-discover their killer instinct?

  4. Postpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

So how does it stand in Group B? Well, the Netherlands are not going through to the Round of 16 today if the score stays like this.

They need to win and hope Chile beat Spain later to book their passage before their final group game against Chile on 23 June.

BBC Sport's David Ornstein in Rio

"Volleys are the best type of goal and that one from Tim Cahill was worthy of the Chilean sat next to me screaming GOLAZOOOOOOOOOOOO at the top of his voice which, predictably, brought the media centre to a standstill here in Rio ahead of the Spain v Chile game."

"Australia have been so impressive. You hope Bruno Martins Indi will be OK but it looked like he landed on his jaw. It looks like Louis van Gaal might go to a 4-3-3 now.

"Tim Cahill's goal was like Tony Yeboah's goal against Liverpool but from wider out in the corner of the box. It was better than Tony Yeboah's. Australia have been magnificent but the Dutch have been hopeless.

"Clarence Seedorf and Thierry Henry can have all their medals but they couldn't commentate on a goal like that."

Mark Marriott:, external As a Manchester United fan, I'm intrigued to see how Louis van Gaal handles the Dutch at half-time. Anyone got a hairdryer?

Gavin Richmond:, external Great goal Tim Cahill, but you are still a thug!

James:, external Robin van Persie has still got the goal of the tournament. Never seen someone chip the keeper with a diving header before.

The Netherlands have it all to do thanks to Tim Cahill's brilliant equaliser. Will the loss of Bruno Martins Indi hurt the Dutch?

We're in stoppage time and the Dutch send on Memphis Depay for the injured Bruno Martins Indi.

Tim Cahill is booked for an ugly lunge on Bruno Martins Indi that sess the Netherlands defender taken off on a stretcher.

It does little to ease the Dutch team's frustrations. That means Cahill misses the final group game against Spain having been booked in the previous game.

Afolabi Shobowale:, external It's like every team has forgotten how to defend in this World Cup. The Dutch defence is a shambles so far.

Sam Robson:, external The Dutch have been caught up in their own hype. Fact is that besides from Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder they are pretty average.

"The Netherlands played well against Spain and everyone's talking about them but Australia look dangerous and should be 3-1 up.

"Australia are calm and composed, they've been sensational. They should be winning this game against a very complacent Dutch team."

It may require a change in tactics by Louis van Gaal. This is far too comfortably for Australia. Matthew Spiranovic is typical of the Socceroos work ethic. He is doing a decent containing job on Robin van Persie who has yet to fire.

Arjen Robben is clapping his hands in an attempt to rally his team-mates. Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal looks unimpressed on the Dutch bench. He is furiously scribbling notes.

  17. Postpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

I'm not sure Tim Cahill has come back down to earth after that goal. The Socceroos are giving this absolutely everything. It might just require something equally special from the Netherlands if the Oranje are to regain the lead.

    Robbie Savage

"There's still shock around the stadium because whatever happens, the people here have seen one of the best World Cup goals ever.

"You do that once out of 500 attempts in training and when you manage it you just walk off, say 'follow that' and go for a cup of tea.

"Australia are in control but the Netherlands look so dangerous on the break."

  19. CLOSE!published at 17:32 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

What a chance for Mark Bresciano. A delightful ball across the Netherlands penalty area by Mathew Leckie falls to the midfielder but he can't keep his shot down. That should have been 2-1.

  20. Postpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 18 June 2014

Australia look as though they are having fun. Still they come at the Dutch. Parking the bus? Not a chance.
