Chris Lyne: This Spain team will rightly go down as one of the greatest of all time but I have to say I'm relieved I won't have to watch them pass teams to death anymore. Much prefer to watch fast-paced counter-attacking football.
Andy in Armagh: Bayern Munich showed Barcelona that tiki-taka football was outdated in the Champions League a couple of seasons ago, Real Madrid then did the same to Pep Guardiola's own Bayern Munich last season. Now Spain have completely flopped at the World Cup against the Netherlands and Chile who have played direct counter-attacking football. I think we've seen the death of tiki-taka, and I for one am glad to see the back of it.
Spain's defensive record in the last few years has been nothing short of extraordinary. Not the class of 2014 though, which could well be Iker Casillas's last stand.
That's very true Nick.
England are 24 hours away from their own destiny against Uruguay.
Nick Leamington Spa: Let's not get too smug/bath in Spain's suffering. There's a pretty decent chance that we could be in the same position tomorrow but without a major trophy since 1966.
Wayne via text: It just shows that hard work and application will beat ego and reputation Well done Chile. England take note.
Tony via text: You've got to blame the manager. How can Cesc Fabregas, a player who would walk into any team, not feature at all? Lunacy!

Dave, Oxford: It seems everything was wrong for Spain. The team was a bad, unimaginative team with an ageing squad and a brand of outdated football. They only had a plan A and everyone cracked it first try. Vicente Del Bosque was naive.
Ben, Hemel: Vicente Del Bosque has paid the price for refusing to acknowledge both the young talent at his disposal and the need for a plan B.
Jack in Newcastle: My money is going on Spain to win the 2018 World Cup. Koke, Thiago Alcantara, Javi Martinez, Gerard Deulofeu, Iker Munain, David De Gea, Alvaro Morata, Cesar Azpilicutea, Jordi Alba, Asier Irrallamendi... I could go on...

"There are thousands of Chile fans pouring out of the stadium in full voice, one described to me today as the best of day of his life and they are absolutely overjoyed. Quite a contrast to the Spain fans, who are in a daze, struggling to understand how this team, who have played so well over the past six years, have crashed out.
"There is talk of an end of an era for Spain, but there will be a big night of partying ahead for these Chile fans."
Koyc:, external It's the end of an era for Spain. Three back to back major tournaments seal their status as a legacy team.
David Jones:, external Spain have spectacularly banished their old reputation as under-achievers in recent years, but this was a bridge too far.
Nathan McGrath:, external Well done Chile! I had a feeling they would get out of their group but not at the expense of Spain.

Former England international Chris Waddle

"I think Brazil would prefer Chile in the next round. They have a good record against them, especially in Brazil. Netherlands, you fancy you will score against them but you can see Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben running riot against Brazil.
"Chile are a hard working, honest team, they are a great side but I think psychologically they will not want to play Brazil."
Former England international Danny Mills
BBC Radio 5 live
"David Villa, Xavi, Fernando Torres, you look at the Spain team and you think there are six or seven players who could all step down.
"In players like Isco, Juan Mata and Cesc Fabregas there are still a lot of players coming through at the top level, you also expect David De Gea to be around for a long time, so Spain will come strong again but it's a big ask for the youngsters to come in and replace what was maybe an ageing squad with a little bit of complacency and a lack of desire."
Former England international Chris Waddle

"They were two hard games for Spain against Chile and Netherlands, and that is because teams have changed the way they play against them.
"Before teams used to sit back and play on the counter attack but now they play quicker than Spain, they press high up the pitch and nick the ball off them. And because Spain are not used to that, and they leave space behind with their full-backs coming on, teams are having success."
Ben via text: Del Bosque has paid the price for refusing to acknowledge both the young talent at his disposal and the need for a 'Plan B'.
Kevin via text: Today showed why Sir Alex Ferguson was a great manager as he knew when to ship out ageing players and played nobody on their past or name alone. Too many managers however great don't learn and dilute their legacy. Sad to say but true of Del Bosque.
John via text: Looking forward to Netherlands v Chile. What a match in prospect!

The highlights are in from the Maracana. Watch as Chile dumped Spain out of the World Cup by clicking on the Highlights tab at the top of the screen.
You're never too good to go down, and you're never too good to go home from a World Cup.
Spain have conceded two or more goals in more than one game at a single World Cup tournament for the first time since USA 94.
In his 126 minutes of World Cup action, Diego Costa failed to muster a single shot on target (only five shots in total).
Spain have shipped seven goals in their two 2014 World Cup games, as many as they had conceded in their previous 13 World Cup games.
Caroline Young:, external Spain players do not even look upset, that tells you all you need to know. Very sad, but why not bring on Cesc?
Nick Pearman:, external Why did Del Bosque not bring on Villa instead of Torres? And why did he not even take Negredo to the World Cup?
Miller Mathieson:, external Respect to Spain for years of domination. Credit to Chile for a fantastic team performance.

Chile to knock Brazil out?
Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari said at Christmas time that:
"I hope Chile don't qualify. "I'd rather play any of the others. They're a pain to play against.
"They're well organized, they're intelligent, they have a good side. It's better to play against a European team."
Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis
BBC Radio 5 live
"I think the Netherlands, and the young players in that Dutch squad could be overawed against Brazil in the next round. But I don't think Chile would be overawed and I don't think they would be underdogs against the hosts."
Who saw that coming 10 days ago then? Spain are out and we want your reaction.
