"It's not a question of what has happened to Spain, you have to give credit to Chile. Chile were fantastic and fighting for one another.

"As for Spain, there's been some bad choices, they just didn't combine well and you could see them struggle. It's a sad moment because Spain have given us so much joy."

    Former England captain Rio Ferdinand
    MOTD analyst

"Spain have won loads and you didn't want them to go out like this. The impressive thing about Chile was the tempo, it was almost Premier League-type tempo, they didn't give them a second's peace and Spain didn't have it in them.

"Diego Costa could have had an assist and a goal and we could be talking about something completely different if those two chances had gone in.

"It was side-ways side-ways slow football from Spain."

Ben Williams:, external The Costa experiment has well and truly failed for Spain. I fancy Chile to win the group now especially as Van Persie is suspended.

Ian:, external To be fair to Torres, I don't even think any striker could score with the service he's had tonight... Very poor Spain

Jack: , externalAdios Espana your players were just too tired, long season for Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, plus the decline of Xavi.

    Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis

"All credit to Chile, they have been wonderful and worked so hard, from front to back. They restricted Spain to one or two chances. In the big games like this you have to take your big chances and with two great opportunities Spain didn't even hit the target.

"But Chile have played like a proper team, and with pace on the counter attack. What a reward for their supporters, how wonderful have the Chilean supporters been tonight.

"I am really surprised I honestly thought Spain would have a real good ride in this competition. But as I said Netherlands were outstanding against them in the second half of their match and Chile have been too. They deserve to go through."

That result leaves Australia out too.

So Chile and Netherlands have qualified from Group B. They play each other next Monday for the right to take the group and avoid the winners of Brazil's Group A.

No dead rubber there! Should be a cracker.

"That would have made for an interesting last five minutes. But we're coming to an end of what has been a great era of Spanish football.

"How many of the Spain players have lived up to who they are and played to their top form? Whether that was because their season has finished later than most I'm not sure. I really wanted them to do well at this World Cup. I feel for Vicente Del Bosque - one of the great managers.

"Spain have had the majority of possession but the Chileans have looked more dangerous. They have played fantastically well. It will be interesting to see that last match between Netherlands and Chile, which is likely to decide who will play Brazil in the next round."

"Everywhere around the pitch Chile have had commanding performances. They've been caught a few times but the mentality to maintain their level can't be underestimated and it's credit to the manager for giving them the freedom to do it."

Nick Pearman:, external Chile have been sharper, quicker and more clinical in all areas. Too many poor performances in the Spain team.

Iain:, external Looks like we are back to the good old Spain of the 80's and 90's.
