David J Harvey:, external Good that Greg dyke has supported Roy. Why should managers take all the flack? We can't keep changing managers.

Costa Rica coach Jorge Luis Pinto: "The people of Costa Rica deserve it. This is for them. We controlled the game. It was as I expected it. We've beaten a great team."

"England miss a bit of nous, a bit of being street wise, knowing how to win a game and being hard to beat. We seem to have to play the Premier League way, at 100 miles per hour.

"We knew the defence was very vulnerable, but they did not address it. Every other team has had joy getting at the full backs or playing counter-attacking football."

"The Latin American teams are playing with a tempo the Europeans, apart from Netherlands, cannot live with. It may well be that a lot of the European players are absolutely run out."

Harry Agar:, external I don't buy the players aren't good enough excuse. England have better players than Costa Rica. We can't play as a team.

Bob Mayat:, external The defence is to blame for the poor world cup. Cahill and Jagielka aren't up to it, neither is Smalling and Jones.

"It's all about getting a balanced set-up, and last night there were too many attackers, they get isolated and then it's difficult to play against decent players. Uruguay's players were hardly ever 10-15 yards apart.

"The Premier League is different to any league in the world and that is our big problem. It's frustrating, because we have everything we need - money, facilities - but it comes down to coaching, and we have to get something right about producing players."

Chris Keenan: I wish Costa Rica all the best for the rest of the tournament. As for England I'm not surprised and I'm bemused that anyone is. This is a mediocre England team at best.

"There is one thing England didn't do and Costa Rica did, they were putting pressure on players. They were just outstanding and at the end of the day, if you let Andrea Pirlo play he will expose you. Costa Rica put pressure on him in the whole game and never let him play."

Quinton Cade: Devastating to be out, but we can not blame Roy Hodgson for it.

Charlotte Latham: Worst World Cup in England's history. Wow.

Wayne Bennett: England have got what they deserved. Over paid, over-rated, gutless and clueless. When will we learn you don't score passing it sideways and backwards.

"Costa Rica did not show Andrea Pirlo any respect during the game, but I'm sure a few will try to get his shirt after the game."
