"This stadium has just come alive in the past 10 minutes and 90% of it wants Ghana to pull off what would be an incredible shock. Andre Ayew has just been urging the crowd for more and more and you can sense Ghana can see an opportunity to pull off something really remarkable here.

"Germany have lost their way. The old stagers are coming into to try and calm things down. What price two goals for Miroslav Klose?"

Change needed for Germany and boss Joachim Low duly obliges. Mario Gotze is replaced by German record goal-scorer Miroslav Klose and Bastian Schweinsteiger comes on for Sami Khedira.

Not a bad couple of substitutes eh?

"Poor play from Philipp Lahm again - he gives the ball away from about the third time in quick succession, leading to the goal. That is unlike him. Now we will see what the Germans are about. You just drop a gear because you're having possession but one error, giving the ball away, and you give a goal away. Now they're chasing the game. Fantastic spirit from Ghana."

Substitute Jordan Ayew races clear down the left with Germany's defence all over the shop. He decides to go for goal himself, with Asamoah Gyan waiting in space in the penalty area, and Neuer comfortably gathers.

It is all Ghana and Andre Ayew is inches away from heading Gyan's cross home. Germany can't cope with Ghana's pace on the break.

"A very poor goal to concede for Germany. Loose passing in midfield. Now this group is being turned on its head. I did not see this coming when Germany took the lead.

"I've watched a few Germany games and they are usually very precise."

We have a potential shock on our hands. Sulley Muntari's through ball catches out defender Per Mertesacker and Asamoah Gyan keeps his cool to calmly slot the ball past Manuel Neuer. Germany are rocking.

BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Fortaleza

"The game needed some drama. In the past five minutes we have had a pitch invader, a Germany goal, head-knee-in, and a wonderful response from Ghana just when you thought Germany might take control of this game. Chants and 'Ghana, Ghana' ring around this stadium once more and we have a real contest on our hands now."

Just seconds before Ayew's equaliser, his brother Jordan had replaced Kevin-Prince Boateng. How proud must their father Abedi Pele feel at the moment?

"That's only the second brilliant ball we've seen in the game and they have produced two goals. It was a brilliant ball from Harrison Afful and a great leap by Andre Ayew. Superb determination from such a small man to leap so high.

"They were two very similar goals, the defenders sat off the crosser, gave them three yards of space and there were two great deliveries. Brilliant response from Ghana - exactly what they needed."

"I'm not even a Ghana supporter and I threw a fist in the air because it was such a good ball and a good header.

"I know from playing in games like these that if you don't score quickly when these big teams have taken the lead it is very difficult when they settle down."

    Andre Ayew equalises

This is more like it. While Mario Gotze's header may have been a bit of a fluke for Germany, Ghana's equaliser had no luck about it.

Harrison Afful's delicious right-wing cross is met by a leaping Andre Ayew and his powerful header gives Manuel Neuer no chance. That is Ayew's second goal of the tournament.

"Real quality from Muller. Ghana gave him a yard, he lifts his head up and gets in a perfect cross for Gotze. It's not the cleanest header we've seen but he won't mind."

"The two centre backs are looking at the keeper. I definitely don't think it's a goalkeepers ball. There was no pressure on the ball, a good delivery, he's run off the right-back, it's poor marking but a clever run.

"Exactly what Ghana will not want to have happen."

Finally a moment of quality. Thomas Muller drifts out to the right and his cross is inch perfect for Mario Gotze. The Bayern Munich man almost makes a mess of it but his downward header bounces of his own knee and flies into the net.

    Muller

Thomas Muller is undoubtedly Germany's go-to man in terms of World Cup goals. But, as you can see from his first-half touches above, Ghana have done a good job of containing him so far. He only had three touches in the penalty area in the opening 45 minutes and has yet to have a shot.

Germany's World Cup record may be the envy of most other nations but, believe or not, there have been murmurs of discontent among some of their countrymen about their trophy drought.

This is manager Joachim Low's fourth major tournament in charge and the pressure is well and truly on to avoid the near misses that have characterised in his time in charge.

Third place at the 2010 World Cup finals, and runners-up at the 2008 Euros and semi-finalists in 2012 is not good considered good enough for a country so used to international silverware - it is now 18 years since they won a major tournament

The critics won't be happy with the first-half performance.

"To me that substitution says that both full-backs are the weak link for Germany now. Mustafi is young and inexperienced and Howedes has struggled against Atsu's pace. That change is real positive for Ghana.

"I think if the Germans can get the ball down they will win game. Ghana have done well so far but all Germany need is just one good ball for Muller to get on the end of."
