"Ghana have been disappointing up front. I would like to see Kevin-Prince Boateng on ball more, more like a playmaker."

Sulley Muntari's long-range strike was one of the few notable efforts on goal during the first half, you can have a look at that again by clicking on the Live Coverage tab at the top of this page.

As you can see from the graphic above, both teams have had their fair share of attacking threat, although most of the game has been played in the central third. Things can only get better as D:Ream once sung.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:51 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

BBC Sport's Ben Smith in Fortaleza

"The players leave the field at Estadio Castelao to a muted reception. It hasn't been the most eventful first half in this World Cup but Ghana have shown much more than they did against the United States and while Germany have, at times, looked incisive in the final third, they have yet to carve out a really clear-cut chance.

"One statistic worth bearing in mind is that all seven of Germany's goals against Ghana have been scored from the 60th minute onwards. The heat has certainly been a factor and in that half, Ghana did plenty of chasing around."

    Former Scotland defender Alan Hansen
    Match of the Day analyst

"We said it was imperative that Ghana got off to a good start and they did. They haven't had any clearcut chances but they have had opportunities where the quality needed to be better. The Germans have been in behind them two or three times but Ghana have defended well."

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:46 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

A disappointing half in terms of action but Ghana coach Akwasi Appiah has to be happy with what he has seen from his side so far. This looks like a completely different Germany team to the one we saw demolish Portugal in the opening group game.

Does that tell us more about Portugal than Germany though perhaps?

It all comes to nothing. The initial corner is partially cleared before Sulley Muntari pokes a shot well wide from the edge of the penalty area.

"That was a superb ball in from Muller and there was only one man he wanted on the end of it - himself. That was the sort of delivery he thrives on."

Inches away from Germany taking the lead. Thomas Muller's low cross from the left flashes across the face of goal but Mario Gotze is on his heels and isn't able to make up the ground. Germany will wish Muller could have got on the end of his own cross.

Joel Scheven:, external Ghana will tire by the second-half. Until then, I'm just waiting for the flood-gates to open.

TeamMikeFootie:, external Ghana look more likely at the moment. Germany seem to be too deep and only ever one player in penalty area or their final ball fails.

It has been a relatively comfortable opening 37 minutes for Ghana goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda. Mario Gotze looks to test him but his volley is straight at him. You have to do better than that Mario.

"This is a good spell for Ghana. Howedes is worried about Atsu's pace so he's dropping off him and giving him time and space. It is a worrying area of the pitch for Germany."

Former Tottenham and USA goalkeeper Brad Friedel
    BBC Radio 5 live

"If this gets to half-time, I'm sure the Ghana manager is going to tell his players that Christian Atsu is free on the right every single time they have the ball.

"He is doing the right thing, but they are playing shorter triangles in the middle."

    Christian Atsu's shot

There haven't been a great deal of highlights from the opening 35 minutes but if you click on the Highlights tab at the top of this page now you can take a look again at Christian Atsu's shot being saved by Manuel Neuer.

Chelsea loanee Atsu spent last season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem.

What a pile driver that is. Former Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari sends a powerful 25-yard strike goalwards but goalkeeper Manuel Neuer deals with it well, parrying the ball away. The shot was straight at him but it wasn't half hit hard.

Asamoah Gyan then sprints clear but he can only poke the ball wide, with Neuer attempting to smother. Not much between the teams at the moment.

Mario Gotze wastes a golden opportunity after being put clear down the right by Jerome Boateng. Gotze looks up but, with just Thomas Muller to pick out, his low cross hits Ghana's John Boye and deflects off Gotze for a goal-kick.

Toni Kroos fires high and not very handsome from 25 yards as Germany struggle to get in behind Ghana. The game is yet to come to life but you get the feeling it isn't far away from exploding into life. Stick with it.
