Nigeria matchwinner Peter Odemwingie: "This victory was for our fans and our country. We had to work hard for this against a quality side. It was a difficult three points but we worked hard to bounce back after what our people thought was a poor performance in the first game. From now on we are looking upwards. Hopefully this win is enough to get us into the second round and after that to be inspired - like we were in the Africa Cup of Nations."

Chris Gilbert:, external I feel for Bosnia. Everyone saying they weren't good enough. They were, it should have been 1-1. Poor refereeing sent them out.

"Nigeria were much better tonight than their opening game. Their work-rate was excellent, they were full of energy and solid at the back - the two central defenders were outstanding. And Emenike up front was a powerhouse."

Nigerian-born BBC Radio 5 live presenter Dotun Adebayo: "This year as you know has been a very difficult year for Nigeria politically - there are still over 200 girls missing we should remember. But this kind of thing brings the country together.

"There is a lot of emotion in the country and they will be going absolutely crazy now."

"Bosnia lost their shape in the second half after their manager made three quick substitutions - I think he panicked a bit. They lost their rhythm in midfield where they were controlling possession. In the last 10 minutes Bosnia were losing their discipline a little bit and Dzeko will look at this game and probably think he could have saved his side their place in the World Cup."

"What a chance. Dzeko carved it himself. A slight deflection and then a save takes it onto the post. Very unlucky.

"If he gets a decent strike on it it's a goal."

Bosnia's player are on the floor and out of the World Cup. It could have been so different though had Edin Dzeko had his shooting boots on. Looking at the replays of that late chance, it was a good save by Vincent Enyeama but Dzeko failed to get proper contact on his shot, scuffed it into the ground and gave the goalkeeper a chance.

Nigeria don't care, they are celebrating their first win in the World Cup since 1998 and are now just a point away from qualification.

Nigeria are looking the more likely scorers as Bosnia continue to get caught on the break. Only some desperate defending stops Emmanuel Emenike from getting a shot on goal.

  17. Postpublished at 00:39 British Summer Time 22 June 2014

Emmanuel Emenike has been a constant threat for Nigeria and he is inches away from sealing victory for his side. His low shot is just wide of the post with Asmir Begovic floundering.

Bosnia look as though their race is run. They look absolutely shattered but need to find some energy from somewhere if they aren't going to exit the World Cup with a game of the group stages still to go.

It is Nigeria attacking and Asmir Begovic has to be alert to parry away Ogeni Onazi's 25-yard shot.

"We can see a number of the Bosnia players walking to the dugouts in this stoppage. They are gasping for the water. It's easy to say 'why aren't they running?' But you've got to experience playing in these conditions to know how hard it is."
