Nigeria know a victory will put them in a commanding position with regards qualification for the next round. A win this evening would mean Iran have to beat Bosnia in their final to go through instead. In fact, even a draw would leave Iran needing victory. Their half-time huddle was very much a 'more of the same' lads.

Andy, via text: Bosnia-Hercegovina have played very well against Argentina in their opening game, and they've played well again tonight. But they lost their first game and now find themselves trailing again. They just aren't used to playing at the very highest level. It'll take time for them to improve.

"It's good to see the African sides showing the world what they can do today.

"Apart from Ivory Coast, the continent's teams made a poor start to the tournament, especially Cameroon.

"It's a different story now though. Ghana gave Germany a massive scare in Fortaleza and now Nigeria are on top against Bosnia-Hercegovina."

    Possession

Nigeria may be ahead but, as you can see from above, Bosnia have had more of the play in attacking areas. Doesn't matter how many chances you make if you don't finish them though.

    Former England defender Phil Neville
    Match of the Day analyst

"Bosnia have been a bit unlucky, they have created the better chances and are technically superior. But at the back they are an accident waiting to happen. The two centre-backs always look like they've got a mistake in them."

    Former England winger Chris Waddle
    BBC Radio 5 live

"I've got to say, it's not as good as the two games we saw earlier. Nigeria were very bright early on and probably deserved the goal. Bosnia for me have got to up the tempo, take a bit more of a risk and have better quality in the final third."

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 23:46 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

Bosnia have to improve defensively if they are going to get back into this game. They look as though they can cause problems going forward but Nigeria's pace is not being coped with at the other end.

  12. Postpublished at 23:46 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

Edin Dzeko fires a shot over the bar from inside the area after a good run and cross on the right from Miralem Pjanic. The striker has had a few decent opportunities but the only one he had his radar on for, was harshly ruled out for offside. A warning shot for Nigeria.

Dzeko is again off target as the seconds countdown before the break. If he keeps getting in the right areas, you feel he won't keep missing them.

Nigeria have scored for only the fifth time in their last eight World Cup games. And Peter Odemwingie has ended their nine-hour drought without scoring from open play at a World Cup finals.

  14. Postpublished at 23:42 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett:

"There are 1062 reasons Nigeria's Vincent Enyeama will be confident of keeping a clean sheet tonight."

"Last season with Lille Enyeama went that many minutes without conceding a goal, almost beating the French top flight record.

"He's already made a couple of important stops and over the last 18 months has proved himself to be one of the best keepers Africa has ever produced.

"Edin Dzeko faces a massive challenge to beat the Super Eagles keeper."

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett:

"Peter Odemwingie was only recalled to the Nigeria squad just before the World Cup after nearly two years out of the side and he missed out on winning the Africa Cup of Nations, so scoring tonight will be a massive moment for him.

"They call Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi, "the big boss" and he has had a few big fall-outs with the Stoke striker over the years. Odemwingie seemed to want to celebrate with Keshi after the goal so it seems that all is forgiven."

CSKA's Moscow Ahmed Musa is proving a real threat for Nigeria. This time his jinking run ends with a low shot turned away by Asmir Begovic.

Bosnia will be glad to get to half time just a goal down. They need to regroup with their World Cup place in jeopardy. If this result stays as it is, they are out.

The average age of the Super Eagles squad is 25, making them the second youngest in Brazil, behind Ghana. There were fears the pressure would get to them, especially after their opening draw with Iran, but those fears have been quelled in this first half. Nigeria have been terrific.

Edin Dzeko will feel he should do better as the ball is fired across to him from the right. The Manchester City man is stretching to get his head on the ball from close range and his little flick is easy for goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama. A difficult chance, but we've seen Dzeko put them in.
