"Both teams will love this weather. No sun, not quite as hot, maybe a bit of rain in their faces. Hopefully that will make the game a bit quicker."

Ghana settling into a good early rhythm, pinging the ball around very nicely indeed. Lovely day in Brasilia, can Cristiano Ronaldo belatedly get involved in the World Cup?

    Ben Smith
    BBC Sport in Recife

"The players are out on the field but many fans, it seems, are still stuck in the traffic caused by the floods in Recife. Thousands of empty seats in Recife. And the rain still falls."

German forward Thomas Muller hit a hat-trick in the opening game of the tournament and has a good chance here, free eight yards out to meet Jerome Boateng's cross but he fluffs his volley and it runs behind him.

Tony Bufton:, external I'll take a bore draw for the USA. Anything to put Portugal out.

This week Google searches for US Soccer outstripped NFL searches for only the second time in history, while Clint Dempsey's goal against Portugal is the second most tweeted moment of the World Cup so far with 305,000 tweets per minute.

"To have America watching these games is the 12th man for us," Dempsey said. "And in Brazil we feel like we have home field advantage."

How far can it take them? We may find out...

    Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen

"I can't see Germany winning the World Cup with Per Mertesacker in the team. As soon as he leaves the 18-yard line, they are vulnerable."

A huge and emotional anthem from those US fans who have made it to Recife. One man salutes in true GI Joe style.

    World Cup

BBC World's Alex South in Brasilia: "The team sheets are in for Ghana and the squad looks a lot lighter with the enforced absence of Sully Muntari and Kevin Prince Boateng. A penny for their thoughts, as their country try to make the knockout stages for the third successive World Cup without them."

  13. Would USA success impact on the MLS?published at 16:54 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    Brad Friedel
    Tottenham and former USA goalkeeper

"Absolutely. You can't say it is absolutely imperative to the growth of US soccer but it helps. Whether people at MLS or in US Soccer would want to admit it, the two things do have a distinct connection.

"If you are on Oklahoma, Nebraska, Idaho or Montana, you don't have professional soccer on your doorstep. All of a sudden it is on ESPN every day, in the newspapers and it starts to spark interest. People in those obscure areas might then ask 'do we have one of those leagues here? 'Yes, we do - the MLS'."

  15. Will Germany and the USA play for a draw?published at 16:52 British Summer Time 26 June 2014

    Former England international Phil Neville
    MOTD analyst

"I had a similar experience at Manchester United in 1999. It was a Champions League game against Bayern Munich. Both teams needed a draw to go through. We were about 60 or 70 minutes into the game, and we were still flying forward, and Ottmar Hitzfeld, the Bayern Munich manager, looked over to our bench as if to say: 'What are you crazy Englishmen doing here?'

"Initially, we didn't understand what he was doing. But about 10 minutes later, we understood that he just wanted us to relax. He didn't say anything. It was just the way he looked at us. At first, I think Sir Alex thought Hitzfeld was looking for a fight. But he just wanted us to calm down."

    Brad Friedel
    Tottenham and former USA goalkeeper

"I think both of these teams are going to try to go out to win from the beginning. Now if it gets to 10 to 15 minutes remaining and it's a draw, then we might see the teams still try to score, but maybe not send so many bodies forward and be quite content with a draw."

    Portugal v Ghana weather

Much sunnier in Brasilia for the game between Portugal and Ghana.

Remember, both of these sides can still mathematically qualify. But it's a long shot.

It's still a long way from full at the Arena Pernambuco in Recife, but to my untrained eyes at least it looks like the rain has eased off. Thomas Muller is fit to play after being smashed in the face by John Boye, he has a neat bit of stitching at the corner of his eye.

    USA v Germany

Both Klinsmann and Low have coached at one previous World Cup finals - both leading Germany to a third-place finish. Klinsmann's team lost to eventual winners Italy on home soil in 2006. And Low also took Die Mannschaft to the semi-finals four years later when they were beaten by Spain, who also went on to lift the trophy.

They both won five out of seven games for Germany.
