The heavens have well and truly opened in Recife this afternoon.

It's been a deluge of rain with roads being flooded and travel to the stadium has been very, very difficult.

But Fifa has confirmed that the game goes ahead as planned...

A draw suits both Germany and the United States this afternoon - a point apiece and they both march into the knockout stages.

Conspiracy theorists worldwide will be keeping a close eye on this one, but Germany coach Joachim Low was quick to insist that his side will be going for all three points in Recife.

"There is no pact, there is no collusion," he said. "This is not an issue for us."

    Jurgen Klinsmann and Joachim Low.

Two old mates, the management team who guided Germany to the semi-finals on home soil in 2006.

One man from Schonau in the Black Forest, one from Goppingen, a town 150km away at the base of Hohenstaufen mountain.

One man a former World Cup winner, scorer of 38 international goals and a star across Europe who ended his playing days in the Premier League.

One man an attacking midfielder of note in the German second tier who ended his playing days in the Swiss Challenge League.

One man the manager of Germany; One man the manager of Group G opponents United States.

Their paths have crossed many times down the years, and this afternoon they meet again. Will they both make it through to the last 16?

Germany and the United States will both qualify if they draw their match in Recife.

Ghana could progress to the last 16 if they beat Portugal and Germany beat the Americans. However, should the US lose by one goal and Ghana win with the same scoreline then the US would go through by virtue of their better head-to-head record against the Black Stars. USA could also go through on goals scored if they are in a high scoring match.

The Africans could also qualify at the expense of the Germans if compatriot Jurgen Klinsmann's United States side record a large victory.

Portugal, who needed a last-minute equaliser against the US to avoid being knocked out, must beat Ghana and overturn a five-goal difference on the Americans.

USA striker Jozy Altidore again misses out with a hamstring strain, but coach Jurgen Klinsmann is hopeful he will be fit if they make the knockout stage.

They could name the same starting XI that drew with Portugal.

Germany defender Jerome Boateng and midfielder Sami Khedira have recovered from the knocks they picked up against Ghana.

Thomas Muller is also fit despite suffering a nasty facial wound in that match.
