"Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner is in Russia with his agent to tie up a transfer to Dynamo Moscow.

"While United insist no deal has been done, it seems only a matter of time before the transfer is complete. Signed from Vitesse by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2012, Butter has struggled to establish himself at United.

"The 25-year-old has made 28 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals, but with first-choice left-back Patrice Evra signing a one-year contract extension Buttner accepts he has no future at Old Trafford under new boss Louis van Gaal."

No England supporter wants to read the words 'Rooney suffers cruciate knee injury' during the World Cup.

But before you reach for the panic button, fortunately for fans of The Three Lions it is the England striker's canine namesake - a 10-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier - who has been rocked by the injury, which he suffered when chasing a ball.

His owner, Richard Smith, 42, from Hull, says: "We've had Rooney since he was a puppy and we love him to bits. Our Rooney is like a baby and he's as daft as a brush. We'll all be cheering England on tomorrow and Rooney will also be watching it with us."

"Brazil's 0-0 draw with Mexico is, as you would expect, front page news here in Brazil. The headline on O Globo's World Cup pullout reads 'no inspiration'.

"One column in the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper is headlined 'a horror show', while the sports daily Lance! takes a similar tone. "A terrible performance," writes Brazilian journalist Eduardo Tironi. "The team managed to play even worse than they did against Croatia."

"Brazil is not impressed and as the Selecao fly back to their training base north of Rio de Janeiro, there is much for Luis Felipe Scolari to ponder."

    Jorge Valdivia graphic

As Spain battle to stay in the tournament later, they ought to be wary of Chile's Jorge Valdivia. The 30-year-old is a lavishly gifted playmaker who has courted controversy off the field, but rewarded coach Jorge Sampaoli's faith in him with the second goal in the 3-1 win over Australia on Friday.

This classic number 10 has served two lengthy bans from international football for alcohol-related indiscretions, and was kidnapped in Brazil in 2012.

But despite those off-field problems, Sampaoli has called the 30-year-old an "irreplaceable talent", and compared him favourably to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Read more in Today at the World Cup, our at-a-glance daily guide to events in Brazil.

"Rio airport is as bustling as ever early this morning as the World Cup roadshow moves on and England will arrive in Sao Paulo later to train ahead of their decisive meeting with Uruguay there tomorrow.

"In and around the England camp there are no signs that confidence has been damaged by defeat to Italy - but there is no question they are also grimly aware that an early flight home will be the price to pay should they fail to produce tomorrow.

"The message has been very clear - England are focusing on the Uruguay team rather than Luis Suarez. This may be easier said than done if, as expected, Liverpool's world-class striker is fit to return after knee surgery."
