  1. Postpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Our coverage has come to an end, but that is only good news because it means the day's first set of matches will soon kick-off.

All that is left for us to do is point you in the direction of Tom Rostance who will guide you through Argentina's showdown with Nigeria and the big one between Bosnia-Hercegovina and Iran. Thanks, as always, for keeping us company. There will be more of the same on Friday. Until then...

  2. 'Suarez bite' an internet hitpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

We're about to sign off, but it'd be a shame not to mention before we go that the internet search engine Google has revealed that there are 20 times more searches globally for Suarez's bite than for snake, spider, tick, fly, dog and mosquito bites combined.

Locally, in Uruguay there are almost as many searches for Luis Suarez's family and story as there are for the bite, while globally people are only interested in the controversial incident from the Italy match.

  3. More Messi magic?published at 15:59 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Lionel Messi has already rescued Argentina on two occasions at this World Cup, but can he make it a hat-trick against Nigeria this evening?

The Barcelona forward had just one touch inside the penalty area against Iran, but still produced a glorious last-minute winner.

For those of you interested in such things, Messi has scored 22 goals in his last 22 games for Argentina.

  4. Countdown to kick-offpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

"We Love These Blues" was Le Parisien newspaper's response to the national side's sumptuous attacking football in the 5-2 dismantling of Switzerland last Friday. Sports daily L'Equipe opted for the simple front-page headline "Vertiginous", encapsulating the fact that France's rise has been a sudden one.

After all, it was only seven months ago that L'Equipe had asked: "Is this the worst French team in history?"

Les Bleus only need a point against Ecuador to guarantee qualification as group winners. Ecuador could lose and still progress but are likely to have to beat France.

  5. Today's player to watch - Emmanuel Emenikepublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Nigeria cannot afford to lose their final group game against Argentina, and the African champions will finish top should they beat the South Americans.

They have the artillery to do it, with Emmanuel Emenike in attack. His battling qualities might upset the Argentine backline and his versatility in being able to play on the left and right will also pose problems.

Perhaps more importantly for this crucial game, the Fenerbahce striker is also one for the big pressure situations, having scored twice in the 2-1 first-leg World Cup play-off win against Ethiopia.

  6. Stats of the daypublished at 15:39 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Bosnia-Hercegovina have never beaten Iran, having drawn once and lost four of their previous five encounters.

Eleven of the past 12 goals Iran have conceded at the World Cup have come in the second half.

Nigeria have registered just one win in six previous attempts against Argentina in all competitions. (Drawing once and losing four times.)

Argentina are looking to win all three group games at a World Cup, just as they managed in 2010 under Diego Maradona.

  7. Stats of the daypublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

France won their previous encounter against Ecuador 2-0 in a friendly game in May 2008, with Bafetimbi Gomis scoring twice.

Enner Valencia has scored seven times in his past six appearances for Ecuador, notching at least once in each game.

This will be the second meeting between Honduras and Switzerland.

Switzerland have never lost against a Concacaf team at World Cup (W1 D2).

"Fifa's disciplinary committee met immediately after the Uruguay v Italy game to assess Suarez case. Fifa say they will meet again later today, after 5pm local (21:00 BST) to begin their process in relation to the apparent bite by the Uruguayan striker."

  10. 90 minutes until kick-offpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Argentina play Nigeria in their final group game this evening and although they are assured of their place in the next round, there's still plenty at stake for Lionel Messi and co.

What do Argentina need to do? Defeat would mean the Super Eagles usurp them and win the group, almost certainly leaving Argentina with a tricky game against in-form France in the last 16, potentially followed by a quarter-final with old foes Germany.

A point would ensure the South American side top Group F, probably setting up a knockout game against either Switzerland or Ecuador which is better, on paper at least, than a match with Les Bleus.

  11. Chile ready to end Brazil 'nightmare'published at 15:20 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Chile may have been knocked out by Brazil the last three times they have reached the knockout stage of the World Cup, but midfielder Arturo Vidal insists that they are up for the challenge when they meet again in the last 16.

"Brazil has been a nightmare for Chile, but things have changed, generations change," he said.

Defender Gonzalo Jara says his side won't adopt different tactics when they take on the hosts in Belo Horizonte on Saturday: "We are going to attack from the start as we do in every game," he said. "You don't negotiate your style."

The rumours seem to be true - you don't get a medal for even participating at a World Cup. England's players touch down on home soil with nothing but a bag of free kit to show for their efforts.

  13. Who is playing - and who will win?published at 15:12 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    Honduras v Switzerland, Group E (21:00 BST)

Lawrenson: "A win will not definitely put Switzerland through, but I think they will make the last 16 because France will beat Ecuador.

"The Swiss have got a bit of firepower, and that should see off a Honduras side that have never looked capable of getting out of their group. They are quite entertaining to watch, though, because they just try to kick teams from pillar to post."

    Honduras v Switzerland

    Lawro's prediction: Honduras 0-2 Switzerland

  14. Who is playing - and who will win?published at 15:10 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    Ecuador v France, Group E (21:00 BST)

Lawrenson: "I am not sure France are the real deal despite the number of goals they have scored, but it is going to take a good team to beat them.

"They are very combative and competitive in midfield, have different options up front and have a very thoughtful manager in Didier Deschamps."

    Ecuador v France

    Lawro's prediction: Ecuador 0-2 France

  15. Who is playing - and who will win?published at 15:08 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    Bosnia-Hercegovina v Iran, Group F (17:00 BST)

Mark Lawrenson: "Iran are the team to have parked the bus in Brazil, although they were a bit unlucky to lose to Argentina in their second group game.

"Generally, coach Carlos Queiroz is more concerned about making sure they are extremely difficult to beat, which they have been.

"Bosnia-Hercegovina are already out but I don't think they will go quietly and if they create enough chances for Edin Dzeko, eventually he will take one."

    Bosnia Hercegovina v Iran

    Lawro's prediction: Bosnia-Hercegovina 2-0 Iran

  16. Who is playing - and who will win?published at 15:05 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

    Nigeria v Argentina, Group F (17:00 BST)

Lawrenson: "Argentina are already through, and Nigeria only need a draw to join them. I think they will get it too.

"They will get chances against Argentina, just like Iran did. There is more to come from Argentina but, at the moment, the little genius Lionel Messi is getting them through the games."

    Nigeria v Argentina

    Lawro's prediction: Nigeria 1-1 Argentina

  18. Klinsmann ready for once-in-a-lifetime clashpublished at 14:59 British Summer Time 25 June 2014

Former Germany striker and coach Jurgen Klinsmann has said he expects emotions to run high when his USA team meet Germany on Thursday.

Klinsmann said it would be a "special moment" when he comes face-to-face with Germany and their coach Joachim Loew, his good friend and his former assistant.

"It's something that doesn't happen every year and probably not any more in a lifetime," said Klinsmann. "So you try to enjoy this moment. There is no doubt it's a special moment because it's the team that you start building, the group of people that you start to gather round and they're all in place still."

Fifa spokeswoman Delia Fischer commenting on Luis Suarez at daily Fifa media briefing: "The player has the right to be heard and has until 17:00 local time (21:00 BST) to submit all documentation.

"The disciplinary committee does not yet have all the elements to discuss the matter. We cannot speak about what could potentially happen. This is in the hands of the disciplinary committee.

"The body pronouncing the sanction decides the scope and duration of it [the sanction] - so we really cannot anticipate what could or could not happen and that's all we can actually say."
