Uruguay have to secure a victory on Tuesday, while Italy only need a point to knock the South American side out and reach the last 16.

Former Manchester United, Chelsea and Argentina midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron says it "hurts" to see Spain knocked out of the World Cup early.

"We're talking about players who gave so much to Spanish and world football. It's part of their cycle," he told the BBC. "And sometimes you can't always win. That's very important to understand because the beauty of football is you don't always win.

"A new generation has to take the place of many of these players and become part of the cycle. They have to continue what has already been achieved."

    Nathaniel ChalobahImage source, Getty Images

Elliot in Ely: Assuming they can get some Premier League experience before Euro 2016, Nathaniel Chalobah and Will Hughes are exactly the type of players England need. Chalobah fills that gap in front of the back four and Hughes retains the ball well.

Chelsea defender Chalobah spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, playing 31 times. Hughes was a key member of a Derby side which reached the play-off final last term.

So what and who next for England? You've been having your say.

    Andre WisdomImage source, Getty Images

Jimmy in Uttoxeter: Surely Liverpool's Andre Wisdom (pictured) is in for a defensive position for the senior national side. Current Under-21 captain, good on the ball and a solid player. We had him on loan at Derby this season at right-back and he was a rock.

Harry: I think we should stick with Roy Hodgson and the future should be around Ross Barkley and Raheem Sterling but there are some great youngsters coming up like Jordan Ibe and Jon Flanagan.

Midfielder Jordan Ibe, 18, is on Liverpool's books but has only started one Premier League game. However, he made 11 appearances during a loan spell at Championship side Birmingham City at the end of 2013-14.

The former Manchester United assistant manager has long bemoaned a lack of cash for the team, mainly caused by political restrictions placed on Iran.

"Yes my connection will finish here at the World Cup," confirmed Queiroz, 61. "There was not support from the government - there has stopped being a genuine interest because of the financial situation. I've had an offer to stay in Brazil and from England, but it is difficult for me to accept a position at a club."

Iran drew 0-0 against Nigeria on Monday in their first 2014 World Cup match.

  17. So what next for England?published at 11:21 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

"For me, the only player who looked like making a difference for England was Rooney," Ballack wrote in his column for the Times.

"He is the only one who can hurt teams, and the only one who is really world class. Some people are saying he should be dropped, which is crazy."

  18. 'We are proud to play for Roy Hodgson'published at 11:21 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

"I speak for the players when I say we are proud to play for Roy Hodgson," says Hart. "He is a great manager, a very passionate man, someone I have an awful lot of respect for, and I hope to continue playing for him.

"We have great leaders, great experienced players in that dressing room and have just come up short in those two games. We have committed our lives to this tournament, thrown everything we can at it."

Some thoughts on our latest question of which players are the future for England? Who will be the key men for Roy Hodgson in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign?

Ryan Williams:, external Adam Lallana needs international experience. Then he will be able to produce what he does for Southampton for England. England should look to develop Barkley into the next generation Gerrard, otherwise we will sorely miss him when he retires.

Jack Simpson:, external Build a team around our future star - Barkley. Keep Sturridge in because he will learn to score more goals.

Alex Burke:, external Defence needs a shake up, replace Jagielka with John Stones, Shaw instead of Baines and we need a new right-back, maybe Joel Ward?

Everton's John Stones, 20, has won two England caps and was one of the stand-by players for the World Cup. Joel Ward, 24, was a regular in Crystal Palace's side in 2013-14.
