"Ross Barkley (pictured), Luke Shaw and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain need their opportunity at this tournament to help them keep progressing. Hodgson has already done what people asked by introducing youth to his squad.

"His target now is to bring that group through over the next two years to get us to the 2016 European Championship. He deserves the chance to do that and we have to hope they keep on improving."

Nick in Surrey on text (81111 UK only): "The need to find a scapegoat is a long-running problem with our mentality. Why can't we just accept that we lost two close games against two good sides by the closest of margins? No-one is to blame. Variance in a tournament format is inescapable and we'll try again for Euro 2016.

More of your texts on who, if anyone, should be blamed for England's World Cup exit

Matt in Wirral: "Roy Hodgson does deserve some criticism for England's early exit. He persisted for too long with a 4-4-2 formation and didn't give this group of players the chance to get used to the system and each other. Their lack of experience playing as a unit really showed, especially the defence.

Nick from Bath: "We do not use players who have pace correctly. We do not develop a situation but rush into our final positions. The space is tight and we then fire a hard ball to control at a player who has a defender at their back rather then using the ball to split the defence when our player is dynamic rather than static, turn the defender and exploit our pace. Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling should have torn those defences to shreds."

  17. Match reactionpublished at 09:25 British Summer Time 21 June 2014

Honduras coach Luis Suarez said: "It was a very hard-fought match. I think we had a bit of difficulty keeping our nerves in check given what was at stake in the game. We played well but they played a bit better."

Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda said: "Even though we went behind, we got our goals at decisive moments and that put us in charge of the match. We'll have to play as well or even better than we did to beat France because they're a side that have grown a lot in the last few months."

Analysis - John Hartson, BBC Radio 5 live: "Ecuador just had a bit more quality than Honduras and can be proud of their performances. They were unlucky against Switzerland, very good against Honduras and I hope they give it a real go against France."
