"That is a big call from Michael Oliver. He wasn't up with play. Diego Costa is looking at the referee as if to say 'you've got that totally wrong'. And the referee has got it wrong there in my opinion as well."

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:32 British Summer Time 18 August 2014

A woeful back pass by Ben Mee and Diego Costa is clean through and knocks the ball past the keeper before crumpling to the ground. Surely a penalty? No says referee Michael Oliver who shows Chelsea's big-money signing a yellow card. Costa looks stunned.

Stavros Makrozachopo:, external What a goal from Chelsea and what an assist from Cesc Fabregas.

Okeke Obinna:, external With a pass like that I won't mind Fabregas back at Arsenal.

Mathew Ashley:, external This is not going to end nicely now for Burnley. All Chelsea needed was a spark and the shock of them going behind was it!

No sign of Luis Suarez yet - but it has been suggested that he will make his Barca debut as a late sub. No matter, plenty of entertainment for far, with Neymar scoring twice, one of them a backheel, in addition to the assist for Lionel Messi's opener. It's 3-0 at the break and oh so pre-season and easy.

Tim Arstall:, external Sounds like an incredible game. I don't think many people expected three goals in the first 25 minutes.

Firas Hamdan:, external Assist of the season from the buy of the summer! Cesc Fabregas is going to prove what a class act he is.

Henry Whitfield:, external The floodgates are open for Chelsea and the rout is on it's way - bad news for Burnley fans.

Breathtaking stuff at Turf Moor. The game started in frantic fashion and the pace has yet to ease. Burnley now face their first big test as Chelsea take control. Who is going to drag the Clarets back into this?

"It was a magnificent pass from Cesc Fabregas to create the goal and he did well to resist shooting and instead make the pass for Andre Schurrle. That was a very well-worked goal. Nobody in the Championship would have scored a goal anything like that against Burnley last season. Chelsea are in control and Burnley are struggling to get out of their half now."

Wow. We're not even midway through the first half and Chelsea have recovered from falling behind to take the lead against the Premier League new boys.

And what a fantastic goal. Andre Schurrle, showing all the class he displayed in Brazil for Germany at the World Cup, loses his marker to stab home from close range following a brilliant ball by Cesc Fabregas. Lovely stuff.

"For Burnley's goal Chelsea's defence went to sleep, nobody moved. It was a lovely first touch from Scott Arfield and he showed great technique to execute that. He's hit across the ball which is a really difficult skill to pull off. But it didn't last long until Chelsea got themselves level. A great ball into the box from Branislav Ivanovic and Diego Costa was, like all good strikers, the quickest to react to put it away."

Well, the London club are not behind for long - and it is the new £32m signing who has drawn them level. A low cross from the right by Branislav Ivanovic takes a deflection, runs right across the Burnley box and hits the base of the post. It then rebounds invitingly into the path of Diego Costa, who slots home from six yards. A goal that will not please Sean Dyche.

Incredible. Burnley are in dreamland as Scott Arfield produces a composed finish from just inside the Chelsea area that leaves Thibaut Courtois clutching at thin air after Chelsea's defence had failed to deal with the first corner of the game for the hosts.

Bucket loads of energy from Burnley. Bags of enthusiasm from those wearing the claret and blue. But the hosts have spent a big chunk of the opening exchanges camped inside their own half. A huge roar goes up as the referee awards Burnley a free-kick midway inside the Chelsea half following John Terry's foul on Lukas Jutkiewicz.

    Almost first blood to Chelsea.

From Andrew: Chelsea and Jose Mourinho had no option but to side with youth and select Thibaut Courtois as their number one goalkeeper. He is the future and there's no time like the present to integrate him into the side to develop a partnership with the defenders in front of him. Chelsea should also respect Petr Cech and give him the option to move on to another club to persue first team football if he wishes to do so.

From John in Poulton le Fylde: Regardless of what team we support, the whole of Lancashire will be willing Burnley to a victory this evening. Best of of luck Sean and the lads

Richard Mist:, external If Diego Costa does well Chelsea will be contenders.

Patrick Chapman:, external Chelsea look really good this year. Although I'm a big fan of Willian and would've started him tonight.
