The decibel levels rise several notches as the hosts emerge from the tunnel to chants of 'Come On Burnley' echoing around the famous old ground of Turf Moor. Then come more chants. 'Ginger Mourinho' as Clarets boss Sean Dyche, dressed in black suit and white shirt, strides across the pitch to take his place in the dug out. Ready?

We've all heard of second season syndrome - the term used to describe a downturn in fortunes for a football club two seasons after its promotion to the Premier League.

Well, there is plenty of proof Jose Mourinho's second season at clubs is always his best. It was then that he won the Champions League while in charge at Porto and Inter Milan.

At Real Madrid, he finally beat Pep Guardiola's Barcelona to the Spanish title, while breaking points and scoring records, in his second season.

On the future of goalkeeper Petr Cech...

"It's about whether Petr Cech can accept the situation about not playing. Chelsea still have Mark Schwarzer as reliable backup don't forget. Cech might just be knocking on Jose Mourinho's door in the next few weeks and asking to leave. If I was him I'd be looking to play."

And here's Jose Mourinho, looking as smooth as ever in a navy blue suit with a Chelsea badge on his jacket. He's also wearing a club tie and a grey sweater. Top marks, as ever, for style. But will his players produce a 10 out of 10 display for their boss at Turf Moor?

Burnley fan and former Labour director of communications Alastair Campbell on BBC Radio 5 live: "Last season people were asking after every single game 'when is Burnley's bubble going to burst'. We've got to be realistic. It's going to be difficult but along the way I think we can take a few scalps and I've got very high hopes tonight will be one of them."

  6. 15 minutes to kick-offpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 18 August 2014

Fifteen minutes and counting. Clarets fans are in good voice as kick-off nears. Chelsea fans have travelled in big numbers and the noise from all four ends of the ground is already generating a cracking atmosphere. The Turf Moor pitch looks immaculate.

Hmm, not taken long for Barca to take the lead against Leon in their pre-season friendly, Lionel Messi converting a cross from Neymar after three minutes.

This one really could get messy.

Phil Durrant:, external Burnley's season depends on Danny Ings. If he's on form they can avoid the drop. He could be an England striker one day.

Fahad Khan:, external Really hope Burnley won't be hammered tonight. I am a Chelsea fan, but I strongly want Burnley to survive the drop this season

Remember the last time Burnley graced the Premier League stage?

An awful lot has happened at Turf Moor in the 1,562 days since the Clarets signed off the 2009-2010 campaign with a 4-2 win over a Tottenham team featuring Gareth Bale. Indeed the only survivor from the 18 on duty for the hosts that day is defender Michael Duff, who was an unused substitute.

The 36-year-old cost just £30,000 when Burnley brought him from Cheltenham Town in 2004. It would require 1,067 Duffs to reach the fee spent on Diego Costa.

Burnley might be facing a season of struggle, but boss Sean Dyche believes his players will be among the smartest and most polite in the Premier League this season.

"I learned good moral values from Brian Clough," says the 43-year-old former Nottingham Forest youth team player. "From my parents too. Manners, being polite, respectful. Our players don't walk off the coach with their cans (headphones) around their neck.

"They are smart in and out of the building. I'm a humble lad with good morals from my parents. Work hard. If you have to clean the floor, make it the cleanest floor ever."

I can confirm that not one Clarets player was wearing 'cans' when they arrived at Turf Moor. All were dressed in club tracksuits carrying wash bags - and most were wearing smiles.

  12. Testing times for Josepublished at 19:33 British Summer Time 18 August 2014

No silverware in 2013-14. A demanding owner. These are testing times for Jose Mourinho and the Chelsea manager must deliver the goods if he is to survive, according to Daily Mail columnist Martin Samuel.

The 51-year-old Portuguese won two league titles and two League Cups during his first stint in charge of Chelsea, but was sacked four months after his only FA Cup triumph in 2007.

Samuel writes:, external "When Mourinho was first retained after a disappointing campaign, he did not make it out of September. Second time around, he has been given more time, a year to shape a younger team and this whole season to make it work — but one imagines there the indulgence ends. Mourinho knows what is expected and the attitude that is required to deliver it. He is preparing for his toughest season."

Rian Hoskins:, external Petr Cech has been excellent but Thibaut Courtois can still improve and be the best around. Hope Cech stays but will understand if he goes.

Favour Teibowei:, external I don't see why a club with two good goalkeepers should have a No 1. They should rotate them every three games.

AK Kak:, external Tough call, but the right one from Jose Mourinho. Thibaut Courtois is the one for the future.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "A fantastic game, but a tough game for sure. Every year Chelsea are up there, but we believe in what we do so we're looking forward to the game. We've got to build on last season. We like to press, we like to play football. The standard of opposition has gone up considerably, but we don't want to go too far away from what we're about."

Dyche, nicknamed the 'Ginger Mourinho' by Clarets fans, is all smiles as he signs autographs at Turf Moor. Can his players put their names up in lights?

"I go a long way back with James Alexander Gordon and I think that both 5 live and football have lost a friend today. The style of reading results before he took over was regimented, but he put his own slant on it.

"He knew when to go up and down with his voice. He had a lovely voice, with a trace of Scot in it, and became synonymous with it the football results. He'll be sadly missed."
