There was a familiar face at Melwood this morning as former striker Luis Suarez dropped by to see old friends and pass on some gifts. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard put this picture on Instagram,, external with the caption: "He is back bearing gifts, emotional saying goodbye to the main man this morning, best wishes to a phenomenal player."

Clearly a signed Barcelona shirt is one of Suarez's gifts, but I wonder what else he has brought along? Whatever they are, they might not be particularly exotic. Suarez was spotted in a local shopping centre yesterday.

Come on then... what would you buy for Stevie G and the boys as a leaving present?

Jamie C in Leeds: I nominate Arsene Wenger to the ALS challenge (a lovely striker). You've got less than 12 hours, get it done.

Duncan in Milton Keynes: Annoyed with deadline day already. Supporting Arsenal is like standing at a bus stop, waiting for the bus you want - knowing you have the money to pay the fare, but then deciding to walk home instead.

Andy in London: On the back of lucrative sponsorship deals and an increase on the most expensive match tickets in Europe, how can Arsenal justify not buying a world class centre forward?!

Interesting that Henry Winter believes Wayne Rooney might have to drop back into midfield at Manchester United. Who's going to break the news to the skipper that he can't play in his favoured forward role anymore? I'm sure all of the answers are in Louis van Gaal's notepad.

Henry from Witney: That is so unfair. Man U get Rooney, Van Persie and Falcao and we have Sanogo, Podolski and Campbell (the latter two playing out of position). Wenger it's great that you look at their potential, but we need someone for the here and now too.

  15. Another banner flown over Old Trafford...published at 11:12 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

BBC Sport's Frank Keogh: "As news emerged of Manchester United agreeing a loan deal with Monaco for striker Radamel Falcao, a plane was spotted flying over Old Trafford.

"Rumours swirled around - Could it be the new signing arriving, a welcome message or maybe even some kind of protest?

"It turns out the banner read "Get the fax out of football" - a publicity stunt from a firm promoting digital transactions, rather than the paperwork associated with Transfer Deadline Day.

"Sorry to let the fax get in the way of a good story."

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett: "Remember David N'gog?"

"The former Liverpool, Bolton and Swansea striker is on the verge of signing for Reims, who are currently second from bottom in the French top flight.

"N'gog is a free agent after being released by Swansea at the end of last season. He only made three appearances for the Swans and failed to find the back of the net."

  17. Fast starter Falcaopublished at 11:08 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

    Man Utd

Manchester United fans won't have too long to wait for a goal from the Colombian if he follows the same path from his time in Madrid. Whilst with Atletico his minutes-per-goal record stood at 112.4 minutes per goal. Louis van Gaal's United have already gone 253 minutes since their last goal.

After only scoring two goals all season, Van Gaal will be hoping that Falcao can quickly find goal-scoring form but there is more to the striker than that. He also has a decent record in creating chances for his team mates.

During his time in La Liga, Falcao created a total of 65 chances and had a pass accuracy percentage of 78.4%. Whilst in Ligue 1 with Monaco his pass accuracy increased to a total of 85.2% across the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons, reports Opta.
