BBC Newcastle understands Sunderland are set to sign Inter Milan midfielder Ricky Alvarez, 26, on a season-long loan deal.

"Tom Cleverley won't be joining Aston Villa from Manchester United today unless his agent reduces his wage demands. Villa manager Paul Lambert met Cleverley, and the player is keen on the move having been guaranteed first-team football. But Lambert has no intention of offering Cleverley more pay than the likes Ron Vlaar and Christian Benteke. One player on his way out is Karim El Ahmadi, who's returning to his former club Feyenoord, after two seasons with Villa."

Interesting news coming from Spain where AS reports, external that Manchester United could be a surprise destination for Colombian striker Falcao.

The Monaco man has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Manchester City and Juventus but AS reports that Falcao is on his way to Old Trafford for £50m on a four-year deal.

Norwich City

Norwich City are awaiting international clearance for new signing Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe, who has joined from Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old Belgium international midfielder agreed a three-year deal on Friday, with an option for a further 12 months extension.

"He is a versatile and very attack-minded midfielder," manager Neil Adams told the club website.

BBC World Service reporter John Bennett: "AC Milan and Roma have been linked with Jackson Martinez this summer but the Colombian forward has confirmed he's staying at Porto... for now."
