A look at Radamel Falcao's goalscoring record makes interesting reading for Manchester United fans - his most prolific season came in 2012-2013 when he bagged 34 goals in 41 games in all competitions as Atletico Madrid won the Copa del Rey and finished third in La Liga. John: This is only the third transfer window since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and since then Manchester United have spent the same amount in 18 months that Fergie spent on players in 12-15 years! This whole situation just proves how great a manager SAF really was that he was able to get the best out of some average players.

  3. Welbeck's futurepublished at 10:51 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

    Man Utd

BBC Sport's Simon Stone, who is reporting that a loan fee of around £6m has been agreed for Radamel Falcao to join Manchester United: "Think it is now certain Danny Welbeck will leave, either on loan or sold. There had been a desire for him not to join a top-six rival but the club now accepts stopping him going would be pointless under the circumstances. That brings Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham into the equation."

    Cardiff City

Wales defender Danny Gabbidon is closing in on a return to Cardiff City as a player-coach.

Gabbidon, who is a free agent since his contract at Crystal Palace expired, has been training with the Bluebirds during the summer.

The 35-year-old was a huge fans' favourite during his first spell at Cardiff, making more than 200 appearances between 2000 and 2005.

Gabbidon has won 49 caps for Wales, and is eager to prolong his playing career to stay in manager Chris Coleman's plans.

As the former West Ham and Queens Park Rangers centre-back is a free agent, the deal could be concluded after the transfer window shuts.

Jonathan Sheppard:, external You know LVG said MUFC was unbalanced…. why not add another attacker.. just what's required.

Philip Townley:, external LVG needs to sign a defender! On a positive note it looks like Welbeck is not needed anymore. He was terrible anyway!

  8. Falcao to Man Utd reactionpublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 1 September 2014

BBC Sport's Simon Stone on Radamel Falcao, who is close to a loan move to Old Trafford: "Manchester City opted against pursuing a deal as they could not make space in their squad for the Colombian.

"However, after a shocking start to the season that has seen them collect two points from three games, and score only twice, and get beaten 4-0 in the Capital One Cup by League One MK Dons, Louis van Gaal has decided to reinforce his squad. Like most of Europe's top clubs, United had been made aware of Falcao's availability over the past 48 hours."

akachukwu daniel:, external Please who will pass the ball to Falcao, Cleverley??

Adam Green:, external Ridiculous signing by United even if a loan. Pointless having a world class striker if your best defender is Chris Smalling.

    Man Utd

BBC Sport's Simon Stone on Radamel Falcao, who is close to a loan move to Old Trafford: "Manchester United have blown deadline day 2014 apart with this deal.

Long term it raises huge questions over the make up of Louis van Gaal's starting line-up. It is impossible to get Falcao, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria into it surely?

"Short term... where will Danny Welbeck end the day? He must know there is no place for him at Old Trafford."
