    Pat Nevin
BBC Radio 5 live at the Bernabeu

"Liverpool fans will glance up at the big clock in the stadium that says 20 minutes gone and say, 'yeah, that's what we wanted'.

"It's not spectacular at the moment, but they're holding their own."

No stopping that one! Lovely penalty from Mikel Arteta, chipped but hard and high, right down the middle. It's his first goal in the Champions League and it puts the Gunners on track for qualification.

  3. PENALTY to ARSENALpublished at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Danny Welbeck is fouled by Chancel MbembaImage source, Reuters

Scruffy, clumsy defending as Danny Welbeck is brought down by Chancel Mbemba. Spot-kick all day long.

Alexis Sanchez hits the postImage source, EPA

Arsenal's man of the moment, Alexis Sanchez, whistles a low shot against the post after a good ball into his feet by Calum Chambers. The Chilean was a different class in the return game in Brussels and looks lively again.

  5. Postpublished at 20:07 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
BBC Radio 5 live at Emirates Stadium

"Sloppy from Arsenal so far, the passing has been poor.

"Aaron Ramsey has had the best chance for the hosts, but Anderlecht are holding their own".

  6. Postpublished at 20:06 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Beckenbauer-esque! Kolo Toure muscles Karim Benzema off the ball, spins away from the striker and then runs 40 yards down the left wing!

  7. CLOSE!published at 20:05 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Anderlecht are looking dangerous, and go close again as Sacha Kljestan hurdles one tackle to get a shot away, but Wojciech Szczesny makes himself big and blocks well.

Danny O'Neill:, external Borini last year was in relegation battle & then nearly signed for QPR! Now he's playing against the Champions at the Bernabeu

Lance Cunningham:, external Liverpool are actually holding their own at the minute. Two half-chances for Madrid but Liverpool have kept the ball well.

  10. Postpublished at 20:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

    Adam LallanaImage source, AP

Liverpool's best moment as Adam Lallana sets Lazar Markovic away on the break. He is one-on-one with Raphael Varane and takes him on for pace, but the young Frenchman steps on the gas to effortlessly sweep it up.

  11. Postpublished at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

That was good enough in the end from Kolo Toure! Not graceful, but effective. The centre-half looks in trouble as Luka Modric plays a pass down the side of him, Karim Benzema tries to latch on to it but Toure just about gets his backside in the way and shuts him off.

Real stepping it up a gear now as James Rodriguez pulls the ball down with a sensational touch.

Aidan in Edinburgh: I hope this team selection sparks a reaction against Chelsea. This game is already lost.

Paul on the Wirral: Lost all respect for Rodgers. 5 Times winners and we're effectively throwing the game because we have Chelsea at the weekend! If we get humiliated Rodgers should walk.

  13. Football league updatepublished at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

There are positive starts for the basement boys in the Championship, as Birmingham City and Brighton both take the lead within the opening two minutes.

Clayton Donaldson put Birmingham in front, but the joy was short-lived for Gary Rowett on his first home game as Blues boss, as top-of-the-table Watford equalise within five minutes through Fernando Forestieri.

Brighton are without a win in 11 games in the league, but Gary Gardner's early strike has given them the lead at home to Wigan.

Patrick Bamford has given Middlesbrough the lead against Norwich in the evening's top of the table clash, while Jordon Ibe has put Derby one up against in-form Huddersfield. Steve McClaren's men are looking to get back on track after losing their last two.

Lee Bown:, external To be honest, with the exception of Coutinho and Henderson that's probably not far off our best team #LFC

James Bean:, external Idiotic from Brendan, I would no longer respect my manager at a club of LFCs stature if I was one of those rested on the bench.

David Mackay:, external Disappointing team selection but absolutely ludicrous to suggest Rodgers is under pressure.

  15. CLOSE!published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is challenged by Guinea IbrahimaImage source, Getty Images

Almost the goal the play deserved at Arsenal - brilliant run from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, committing two defenders and driving through a barely visible gap. He picks out Aaron Ramsey, who spins and leathers in a shot which is brilliantly diverted away by a sliding defender.

  16. Smart savespublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

    Pat Nevin
BBC Radio 5 live at the Bernabeu

"Simon Mignolet may well get man of the match tonight as he's already made two world-class saves and we're only 10 minutes in."

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Not what you need from your captain! Martin Skrtel is at fault, he takes a heavy touch, Cristiano Ronaldo picks up the pieces and flashes in an instant hit which Simon Mignolet turns over with an iron wrist.

  18. CLOSE!published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

That is close! Anderlecht inches away from the opener as Dennis Praet lines up a shot from 20 yards, it hits the ankles of Per Mertesacker and spins just past the near post. So nearly the breakthrough!

Jordan Mundy-Gill:, external Emre Can looks a class act. Gonna be a top class box to box midfielder in 3 or 4 years time. Good start for #LFC

  20. Postpublished at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 4 November 2014

Lovely feet from Isco as he spins away from two tacklers - but he then runs straight into James Rodriguez! Isco has been in sparkling touch of late - but he'll still be dropped when Gareth Bale is fully fit.
