So a great night of entertainment in the end served up by Hull and West Ham, who both gave as good as they got.

It's time to bring this live text to a close, but we will be back tomorrow with Champions League football. Cheerio.

An intriguing fixture awaits Hull boss Steve Bruce this weekend as he takes his side to Newcastle. Bruce has been linked with manager's job at St James Park, as pressure appears to be mounting on Alan Pardew.

It would make for added intrigue if Hull manage to get a win there too.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce, speaking to Sky Sports: "The two goals, the first one in particular from their new striker, you just have to hold your hands up - it was a wonder goal and it made for a really good night of football. It was open, end-to-end and all credit to West Ham, they played some good football today.

"If you see [Abel Hernandez] now, poor kid! He has been waiting for two weeks, he has been away in Japan and South Korea and stuck in Rome for the past couple of days waiting for his passport. He was full of life in training and that was what made my mind up - seeing the way he was, so I thought just throw him in. It was great also to see Mo Diame score - a great night for the two new signings."

"Me and Sam Allardyce are going to have a glass of beer now and say we usually don't play like that!! We are usually a lot tighter!"

No lack of excitement tonight - and the stats bear that out, 27 attempts at goals, 10 on target.

Interesting that West Ham, as the away team, had 59% of the possession.

How much will West Ham rue that late, late effort by Enner Valencia not going in? The Hammers have a tough couple of games coming up with Liverpool the visitors on Saturday, and then a trip to Manchester United the weekend after.

Still, it was a good point, especially against a side they will likely find in and around them in the table.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a bit hair raising for me when you go down twice and probably don't deserve to, especially the second one when Mo Diame scored having just joined them. But we showed great character, I did not think there was much between the two teams.

"What a goal by Enner Valencia, I think everyone has seen now why we have bought him. I was up and ready to start dancing, which is not a pleasing sight, had the one gone in at the death. But we respect the point, it was a very good performance by the team who will only get better as they get to know each other more."

  8. Player reactionpublished at 22:03 British Summer Time 15 September 2014

West Ham midfielder Mark Noble on Sky Sports: "We see Enner Valencia do that in training all the time, he has no back-lift but gets incredible power. I did not even see that go in today. I think we showed tonight we are back on our game."

Hull defender Curtis Davies on his own goal: "As a defender you try to get in the right place and do the right thing but that is disappointing. We now have to get ready for a big game in Newcastle."

Who would have seen that coming after what can only be described as a bland opening 20 minutes or so?

In the end, a draw was a fair result and one that surely both managers will be pretty pleased with. Plenty of positives to take from it for both sides.

From Andy in Armagh: Allan McGregor certainly didn't deserve to be on the losing side tonight. Some great goalkeeping on show from him, great reactions at times.

There were no losers tonight Andy.

Another substitution, another debutant as midfielder Morgan Amalfitano, signed from Marseille on deadline day, replaces Diafra Sakho for West Ham.

Plenty of reason to be enthused about the season ahead, judging by the performances of some of the two clubs' new signings.
