"Mario Balotelli looked as though he had played his part and was feeling his hamstring a little. Rickie Lambert is a great, honest professional, and he will work very hard when Liverpool have got and when they have not got the ball. It makes perfect sense to me.

"Everton will be disappointed because I am sure they can play a lot better than this. They have not carried a threat in this second half."

After making 11 changes for the midweek League Cup defeat at Newcastle, Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock reverts back to the same side that won 3-1 at Everton last weekend. Striker Marouane Chamakh is available after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury but has to settle for a place on the bench.

Leicester also stick with the 'if it ain't broke' philosophy as they field the same starting XI that came back to beat Manchester United 5-3 six days ago. That means Jamie Vardy, who terrorised United last Sunday, retains his place.

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Ward, Delaney, Dann, Kelly, Jedinak, Ledley, McArthur, Bolasie, Puncheon, Campbell.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel, De Laet, Morgan (c), Moore, Konchesky, Hammond, Cambiasso, Nugent, Drinkwater, Vardy, Ulloa.

Winger Will Buckley starts only his second Premier League game since his summer arrival from Brighton in place of the injured Emanuele Giaccherini after impressing in Sunderland's mid-week Capital One Cup defeat to Stoke.

Swansea make one change to the side that lost to Southampton in the league a week ago. Striker Bafetimbi Gomis starts with Wilfried Bony - without a goal and sent off against the Saints - on the bench after missing the Swans' 3-0 cup win over Everton through suspension.

Sunderland XI: Mannone, Jones, Vergini, O'Shea, van Aanholt, Cattermole, Larsson, Rodwell, Johnson, Buckley, Wickham.

Swansea XI: Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Taylor, Ki, Shelvey, Dyer, Sigurdsson, Routledge, Gomis.

Clever play just before a free-kick from Mario Balotelli as he winds up his marker - debutant Tyias Browning - and then walks away leaving the young defender looking a little confused. However, after wandering away from the close attentions of Browning, the delivery is poor and Everton survive.

"Samuel Eto'o is up front but Everton are still playing Romelu Lukaku up out on the right, with Aiden McGeady on the left and Steven Naismith supporting in the middle.

"I would have gone with two strikers up front, to just put Liverpool under a bit more pressure. But there is still time for Everton to find an equaliser."

"Romelu Lukaku has been disappointing today, but he has been playing out wide. He is not a wide player for me; he is a bustling, old-fashioned centre forward. And as he has shown both last year and when on loan at West Brom, he will score goals in the Premier League."

"Raheem Sterling has been outstanding. Absolutely non-stop and positive all game. For a young lad he has really carried the flag for Liverpool. Philippe Coutinho enjoys the freedom to move around the pitch, and it looks as though Brendan Rodgers gives him that licence, playing him just behind the striker."
