Two seasons ago Bradford reached the League Cup final and they have a good chance of moving into the third round as opponents Leeds United are down to 10 men following two bookings for Luke Murphy inside 30 minutes.

The League One side have also had the best chance but Aaron McLean's diving header from inside the six-yard box after Alan Sheehan's in-swinging cross was off target.

Stephen Warnock's fizzing effort, which went narrowly over the bar, is the closest David Hockaday's side have come.

"Arsenal are fortunate to be 1-0 up at half-time. You saw the reaction from the Arsenal players, they know this game is far from over.

"Before the goal, I thought Wenger might give it 15 minutes after half-time before making a change.

"They have to press the ball better. Besiktas have come here with a plan.

"[Besiktas coach Slaven] Bilic must be very frustrated and sad for his players as they have been well organised."

  3. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:40 British Summer Time 27 August 2014

It is goalless at Villa Park in the League Cup second round tie as Premier League Aston Villa and League One Leyton Orient have only managed one shot on target between them.

That came from Villa's forgotten man Darren Bent, making his first start for the club since May 2013. He was put clear by debutant Joe Cole's through ball and was one-on-one with Orient's Gary Woods, but the goalkeeper got his foot to the shot and diverted the ball wide.

Orient's best chance fell to captain David Mooney, who headed wide from Elliot Omozusi's cross.

"What a relief Alexis Sanchez's goal was for an increasingly jittery Arsenal. Barely time to restart before half-time and all the nerves are suddenly more settled."

    On Alexis Sanchez's goal:

"It's Jack Wilshere again, coming in from that central area. It comes from a right-hand cross from Debuchy, which at is only half cleared. Wilshere takes over and Sanchez slots it side-footed into the corner."

Besiktas can consider themselves to be a little unfortunate. Arsenal may have shaded the possession and had more shots in the opening half but it was the visitors looking more incisive on the break. Different game now though.

Great timing as the Gunners finally make the breakthrough.

Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil play an intricate one-two on the edge of the penalty area and, when the former fails to collect the ball, Alexis Sanchez is on hand to slot home his first goal for Arsenal.

    The relief is tangible.

When you look at that live it looks like Wilshere caught Motta from behind. Arsenal are very lucky to get away with that.

Motta is about to pull the trigger. Jack slips and catches him. That has to be a penalty.

If it was at the other end, on one of the Arsenal players, the lid would have come off the place.

Arsenal go up the other end and almost take the lead themselves as Jack Wilshere chips the ball through to Alexis Sanchez but the striker's touch is heavy and goalkeeper Tolga Zungin smothers.

What a chance for Besiktas. Olcay Sahan gets in down the left channel and his pull back looks certain to be tapped home by Ramon Motta before Jack Wilshere throws himself into a desperate lunge from behind.

The Turks appeal for a penalty as Motta goes down in the penalty area but referee Pedro Proenca waves play on. He got that right but risky from Wilshere.

"After a bright start Arsenal have become increasingly frustrated, as have their supporters. And no joy whatsoever so far for summer signing Alexis Sanchez as he strives to make an impact."

John Pierce:, external Wenger has the demeanour of a coach who knows his team isn't 100%. Can they score two? They'll need it.

Ben Johnson:, external Arsenal are looking "desperate" (Wenger's words) for this win. Arguing dramatically over every throw in!

Mathew Penistone:, external Every time it goes to Wilshere the ball is lost. Counter productive having him in the team. Very frustrating player.

The Emirates sounds a nervy place at the moment. The fans know the importance of qualifying for the Champions League group stages but, with less than 10 minutes of the first half remaining, Arsenal have got a real task on their hands.

It hasn't been a classic, but you get the feeling there is drama ahead.

Timely challenge from Mathieu Debuchy - just. Besiktas look as though they are clear on goal as Mustafa Pektemek wriggles past Per Mertesacker but the Frenchman just gets a toe to the ball and danger over. He needed to get that right.

On Alexis Sanchez playing up front on his own:

"I don't think he appreciates being a lone striker. When Olivier Giroud plays it is all geared to play to him. With Sanchez up top they are not playing it into him in the same way. It is not geared up for him.

"If you look at the bench, Joel Campbell and Lukas Podolski can all play up top so it is unlikely that Wenger will bring in another striker."

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:19 British Summer Time 27 August 2014

A moment to forget for Olcay Sahan. He drives into a dangerous position deep in Arsenal's half before kicking thin air and falling over.

Arsenal attempt to break and former Gunners youngster Oguzhan Ozyakup is cautioned for a late challenge on Laurent Koscielny.

  18. RED CARD - Murphy (Leeds)published at 20:19 British Summer Time 27 August 2014

Leeds manager David Hockaday is under pressure after club owner Massimo Cellino nearly sacked him following his side's 4-1 defeat at Watford on Saturday.

Well, Luke Murphy has not helped out his boss one bit, with two bookings inside the first 30 minutes in their second round League Cup tie at Bradford.

He was lucky to stay on after a reckless lunge in the seventh minute on Gary Riddle earned him only a yellow card, before another foul, this time on James Meredith, saw him exit the field early.

Santi Cazorla is looking a real threat for Arsenal. At the moment though his team-mates don't seem to be on the same wavelength. Half an hour gone and still no breakthrough.

"Ozil and Sanchez were just on the wrong wave length. Sanchez was pulling away at the far post and he plays it near.

"His pace was good though. He has been out for along while remember.

"It's good job Koybasi didn't make contact when Ozil was racing down the left side or he could have been in the book."
