    Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown
BBC Radio 5 live at Emirates Stadium

"Besiktas are dominating possession now and Arsenal are trying to hit them on the counter-attack.

"We are into the real nuts and bolts of the match now - where it will be won and lost.

"For Arsenal it is a wake up call. They can't give them any opportunity.

"It is real test of their fitness. Beskitas have not started their season yet, but you can't question their fitness."

Santi Cazorla drills the ball against the outside of the post but the whistle had already gone for a foul.

A Besiktas goal and Arsenal won't be in the Champions League for the first time in 17 seasons.

Nervous Arsenal fans? You can get from behind the curtains in about 20 minutes.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport Chief Football Writer at Emirates Stadium

"Suddenly nerves are fraying again at Emirates Stadium as Besiktas press forward for the goal they need. Arsenal will hope to take advantage of the increasing risks the Turks will have to take - but this could yet seem like a very long last 20 minutes."

  4. Postpublished at 21:11 British Summer Time 27 August 2014

Besiktas are enjoying a good spell with less than 25 minutes left. The Turks haven't given up and are making the Emirates a pretty nervy place right now.

    This could go either way.

Conal from Derry: People get so carried away these days. Sanchez has scored one goal and suddenly he's the "signing of the summer".

James from Surrey: Regarding Ben's earlier comment - Why do players EVER appeal for throw ins? They only go and throw them straight back to the opposition 75% of the time anyway. Is there a gap in the market for a "throw in coach"?

Keith Lucas: I would not care if Arsenal didn't qualify. How many times have they come second in the group and then get knocked out in the first round of the knock-outs? Concentrate on the league and suffer less stupid midweek games and injuries.

    Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown
BBC Radio 5 live at Emirates Stadium

On a couple of early chances for Arsenal in the second-half:

"Besiktas goalkeeper Tolga was like full-back there. He was way out of his box. In the end he gets in a good tackle and it's corner to Arsenal. Good running from Oxlade-Chamberlain though.

"[The second chance] was a bit scruffy down the right-hand side. The ball comes back to Wilshere, who threads it through for Sanchez, who pokes it wide."

How did that not go in?

Brilliant from Jack Wilshere as his disguised pass finds Alexis Sanchez unmarked inside the penalty area. The Chilean, with just goalkeeper Tolga Zengin to beat, stabs his shot wide.

    He has to score.

Arsenal are pressing. Santi Cazorla collects the ball from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, drives towards the penalty area, before drilling wide of the far post.

The Gunners know though a Besiktas goal and the Turks are in the driving seat on away goals.

Apaka N Sakakibara:, external Has Sanchez just paid his fee off? This goal might prove to be worth the money Arsenal have paid for him. One more please.

Matt Smith:, external What game is the referee watching? Besiktas denied two blatant penalties. Arsenal lucky to still be competitive.

Batmanu Eboue:, external And that goal shows exactly why Alexis Sanchez is the signing of the summer.

David Cotterill has hit the post for Blues after both Billy Jones and Wes Brown failed to clear the danger and Wes Thomas has also fired wide for the hosts.

Sunderland's Jozy Altidore volleyed over from Sebastian Larsson's dinked pass and Connor Wickham blasted off target from 25 yards.

Portuguese referee Pedro Proenca will be welcome at the Emirates again after that first half. To be fair, it would be hard argue against his two big calls but they could have gone against Arsenal.

Mathieu Debuchy and Jack Wilshere will both be relieved men after penalty shouts against them. Debuchy just about got the ball, while it is difficult to see if there was contact between Wilshere and Ramon Motta. A lot of officials would have given it but, if he didn't see contact, he was right to wave play on.
