Kris Doolan's second goal of the season separates the sides at Firhill. Partick Thistle are by far the brighter side, with St Mirren struggling to impose themselves as an attacking force.

John McGinn goes alone after robbing an opponent and cutting in from the right. The St Mirren midfielder's shot from 25 yards packs a punch and Jags keeper Scott Fox makes an awkward 'slappy' save, with no one in black and white to profit from the loose ball.

More neat, one-touch play from the hosts ends with Kallum Higginbotham teeing up Ryan Stevenson at the right-hand junction of the penalty area. The shot from the former Hearts man is always rising though and thunders into the sparsely-attended stand behind the goal.

A poor touch from Abdul Osman presents Kenny McLean with a shooting chance on the edge of the penalty box but the Partick midfielder recovers to make an important challenge and the deflected effort flies wide.

From the corner, McLean takes a tumble and a half-hearted penalty appeal is waved away...

Steven Lawless is buzzing around in that space just in front of the visiting defence and he's causing St Mirren all sorts of problems with his sharp movement.

Suddenly a large gap appears in the Thistle rearguard as John McGinn slips a pass to James Marwood. The St Mirren striker takes aim for the top corner from 20 yards but his eye is out and the ball flies a yard or two wide.

Another nifty passing sequence from the Jags culminates with a shot on the turn from Ryan Stevenson sliding wide from 20 yards.

Partick Thistle look more comfortable in possession, although there has been little to excite the fans at Firhill in the opening quarter of an hour.

Abdul Osman and Isaac Osbourne hammer into a 50-50 challenge, with the latter coming off worst. However, he's soon on his feet again and gets a sporting round of applause from both sets of fans.

A neat passing move from Thistle sees Kallum Higginbotham breaking into the penalty box from the left but St Mirren stalwart Jim Goodwin makes a good sliding interception on the winger's low delivery.

Former Thistle man Isaac Osbourne works the ball to John McGinn on the edge of the home penalty area but the midfielder scuffs his shot well wide of the mark.

Jeroen Tesselaar is the first player cautioned by referee Willie Collum as the St Mirren left-back clatters into a late challenge on Jordan McMillan.
