Gary Teale whips in a dangerous corner for St Mirren but the front-post runner can't get a significant touch. The ball breaks back to the former Scotland midfielder and his powerful shot is straight at home keeper Scott Fox.

Partick Thistle are on the attack right away and a shot from Kallum Higginbotham takes a deflection before bobbling wide for a corner. The hosts fail to threaten from the set-piece.

BBC Scotland's trackside reporter Chick Young reckons talk of Tommy Craig getting the sack this early in the season is ridiculous. "There will be no panic," opines the veteran Buddies fan.

"Partick Thistle are on a high, they are scoring goals and they're hard to beat. If St Mirren can get anything from this, it's a bonus."

Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald: "It's just important that we concentrate on our performance and start really positively and take every advantage if they are low in confidence.

"We are at home and we have to be positive from the first kick of the ball, and if there are any nerves there, we can put them under pressure and see how they handle it.

"I have been in that position before when your luck is down and you don't get the breaks. That has certainly been the case for St Mirren this year.

"It happened to us on a number of occasions last year, playing ever so well and you miss a chance and the other team goes up the park and snatches the three points."

SPLstats on Twitter: "St Mirren have not lost 6 consecutive league matches since Dec 2000-Jan 2001, a season in which they were relegated from the top flight.

And more from the Internet's go-to-guy for Scottish football nuggets: "Partick Thistle have not won two consecutive Premiership matches since being promoted last summer."

St Mirren midfielder Isaac Osbourne left Firhill in the summer after an injury-hit season with Thistle and he's looking forward to this one.

"They are a good group of boys and it's going to be nice to bump heads with them," he said when previewing the match earlier this week.

"I will be putting some challenges in and I think one or two of them know that."

St Mirren's league form is easier to sum up. Dismal. Played five, lost five, scored one, conceded nine.

And the visitors must do with experienced striker Steven Thompson, who will be sidelined for the next three months as he recovers from groin surgery. "All of a sudden the talisman is not there but we just have to crack on," said manager Tommy Craig of the 35-year-old's absence.

It took the Jags forever to clinch a league win in front of their own fans last season (well, until February). But Alan Archibald's men got off to a flier this time, thumping Ross County on opening day and they completed a Highland double last weekend, seeing off Inverness Caley Thistle 3-1 in Maryhill. There has been one blip at Firhill though, a 2-1 loss to Hamilton Accies, who nabbed their goals in the final three minutes.

Partick Thistle make one change in defence, with Aaron Muirhead in for Danny Seaborne, while the Buddies bring in wingers Gary Teale and Gregg Wylde as Marc McAusland and Adam Drury drop to the bench.
