The linesman in Real's attacking half is having a very busy evening. This time it is Ronaldo who mis-times his run as he is put through on goal. At the other end Susaeta reaches the byline but his cross is wayward.

Things have settled down a bit in the Bernabeu. Athletic look a threat from set-pieces, Real look a threat whenever Ronaldo gets near the ball.

David Luiz is often criticised for his defensive ability, but the ex-Chelsea man times a last-ditch tackle to perfection to stop Monaco bagging the opener.

That comes moments after PSG appeal, unsuccessfully, for a penalty at the other end. Game wide open now.

Festus Loti:, external Is it that defenders in La Liga are just bad because CR7 & Messi really make scoring look very simple.

Another Athletic corner yields their first shot on goal. From the edge of the box Iker Muniain unleashes a volley that's tipped over by his namesake Casillas.

A little spell of pressure from Athletic here as Ramos concedes back-to-back corner. From the second, Real break quickly and Ronaldo slides Benzema through, only for the Frenchman to be flagged offside again. Very marginal call that one.

Oooh. Close again from Real. Ronaldo dinks Bale past the Athletic backline again and his low cross is inches away from Benzema's outstretched toe.

Benat comes back on, with a heavy white bandage wrapped around his noggin. Carvajal also went off for treatment but there are no such adornments for him.

Are Paris St-Germain determined to take the 'FC Hollywood' title away from Bayern Munich? Because joining USA athletics legend Carl Lewis in the Parc Des Princes stands is guitar/keyboard/drum hero Lenny Kravitz.

And all this just days after one of the world's most famous couples - Jay-Z and Beyonce - joined ex-PSG midfielder David Beckham in the French capital. Celeb central.

Back to the pitch...it is anything but glamorous. Still goalless.

We have a stoppage because Benat's head is bleeding after a clash with Real full-back Carvajal. Incidentally, that was Ronaldo's 11th league goal of the season. This is Real's seventh game.

Lively start by PSG, who have started at a pace that Carl Lewis would have been proud of in his hey-day. Italy midfielder Marco Verrati has their clearest sight on goal, blazing high over the Monaco crossbar.

This could be a turkey shoot. Gareth Bale gallops away down the right again and looks to feed Benzema on the edge of the six-yard box, but the Frenchman has strayed marginally offside.

Memo to Athletic Bilbao right-back. When CR7 makes a little dart towards goal do your best to stay with him...

Here he is again, twisting Oscar de Marcos this way and that before firing a shot towards the near post, which Gorka Iraizoz tips round for a corner.

US athletics legend Carl Lewis strides out purposefully on to the Parc Des Princes pitch - like he is marching up to the starting line for the 1984 Olympics 100m final - to ceremonially kick off the game. I thought my eyes were deceiving me at first. They weren't.

PSG striker Edinson Cavani laughs and claps Lewis's efforts before kicking off the action for real.

Normal service at the Berbabeu and this could be a long night for Athletic. Gareth Bale whips a perfect cross to the far post with his right foot and Cristiano Ronaldo applies the simplest of finishes with his forehead.

Monaco are without everyone's favourite languid Bulgarian striker. Ex-Manchester United and Tottenham man Dimitar Berbatov is out of the trip to Paris with an ankle injury.

The principality side are also without suspended midfielder Jeremy Toulalan.

"The team has lost two important players," said Jardim. "But the most important is the team and the equilibrium. I have confidence in the players who will replace them."

Last season, the matches between Paris St-Germain and Monaco were billed as a meeting of European football's nouveau riche. Not any more.

While French champions PSG still have plenty of financial muscle, Monaco have seen daddy's credit card withdrawn. Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev has put a stop on their excessive spending, with big-money singings Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez both shipped out of Monte Carlo.

Leonardo Jardim's new-look side languish in 12th after a woeful start, while PSG are still unbeaten this season. However, they are fourth having drawn five of their eight matches.

A victory for Real Madrid would take them above champions Atletico Madrid into fourth place, four points behind leaders Barcelona. Sevilla are third after dishing out a 4-1 spanking to Deportivo La Coruna earlier today.

The Basque side have let in 22 goals in their last five visits to the Bernabeu, where they haven't won since 2005. In their last 23 meetings, the sides have played out just one draw: a 1-1 at San Mames in February during which Cristiano Ronaldo picked up a red card.
