  1. Responsibility vacuum at Newcastlepublished at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

    MOTD2 Extra

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel: "The way Newcastle played last week was without any confidence. They have no leaders in that team, nobody who will take responsibility. They were moving the ball around, making it look neat and tidy, but in the end it all went dead. Papiss Cisse looked the only threat. I cannot see how they will get anything out of this game if they play the way they played last Saturday."

BBC Match of the Day commentator Steve Wilson: "Spurs are a better side this season than last, they look defensively a little stronger, I saw them beat QPR and Erik Lamela was fantastic, of course everybody saw his goal in midweek. He and Christian Eriksen, if you can get them working together they will be a handful."

Burnley make one change with Stephen Ward in for defender Ben Mee.

Everton make one change from the side that defeated Aston Villa with striker Samuel Eto'o replacing midfielder Ross Barkley, who starts on the bench.

Burnley XI: Heaton, Trippier, Shackell, Duff, Ward, Kightly, Jones, Arfield, Boyd, Jutkiewicz, Ings.

Everton XI: Howard, Baines, Jagielka, Alcaraz, Coleman, Naismith, McCarthy, Barry, Osman, Eto'o, Lukaku.

    MOTD2 Extra

Discussing the form of West Ham, who are fourth in the Premier League table and defeated Man City 2-1 on Saturday.

Daily Telegraph football correspondent Henry Winter: "I do not think Andy Carroll will get back into the team when he is fit. Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho have been outstanding. West Ham look at the way the opposition play and taper tactics to counter the opposition. They looked at how Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool played and the space Steven Gerrard had last season and Stewart Downing went and sat on him."

West Ham defeated Liverpool 3-1 earlier in the season.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel: "I feel that with tactics, Sam's hand has been forced by striker Andy Carroll's absence - he has a team of short players and has been forced to pass the ball. When you play Carroll you have to play a certain way."

BBC Match of the Day commentator Steve Wilson: "When I look at Saturday's result - I cannot forgot being at the League Cup game at the Etihad - 6-0. Sam Allardyce got hammered by the travelling supporters and that really wasn't very long ago. Bringing Stewart Downing inside has been brilliant for him. They look a totally different proposition this season."

  8. "United not in title race"published at 12:41 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

    MOTD2 Extra

Discussing the lack of mind games used by Jose Mourinho ahead of today's match.

Daily Telegraph football correspondent Henry Winter: "Mourinho is very clever in terms of which fights he picks. He always called Sir Alex Ferguson the master and brought him increasingly expensive bottles of wine. With Arsene Wenger, he felt he could get under his skin and sensed a psychological vulnerability in Arsenal and Wenger. He doesn't sense that with Louis van Gaal."

BBC Match of the Day commentator Steve Wilson: "It was a Sir Alex Ferguson tactic, as soon as he felt Rafael Benitez at Liverpool was a threat he became public enemy number one. If Mourinho can knock Manchester United out of the title race at the end of October absolutely he will do it."

  9. Team newspublished at 12:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

Tottenham make two changes from the side that lost 4-1 to Manchester City last week - defender Jan Vertonghen is in for Fazio while striker Emmanuel Adebayor comes in for Roberto Soldado.

Newcastle replace the injured Papiss Cisse with Ayoze Perez in attack.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Dier, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Rose, Capoue, Mason, Chadli, Eriksen, Lamela, Adebayor.

Newcastle XI: Krul, Janmaat, S.Taylor, Coloccini, Dummett, Sissoko, Anita, Colback, Obertan, Perez, Gouffran.

  10. "Van Gaal's belief bigger than Mourinho's"published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel
    MOTD2 Extra

"You have to bear in mind where Louis van Gaal has worked before. His self-belief is bigger than Jose Mourinho's.

"I know it sounds crazy, but everywhere he has been he has been at loggerheads with people in the team, the backroom staff, and at board level because he knows exactly what he does. He uses the phrase 'my philosophy' all the time, and he is very clear about that and he knows exactly where he wants to go.

"He is not fazed by it being Manchester United. He wants to put his philosophy into it. It is not a question of three months."

  11. Different defensive strokespublished at 12:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

    Kevin Kilbane
    BBC Radio 5 live

"United have always had a lot of pace at the back, when you look back to the time of Gary Pallister even, which could get them out of trouble if they ventured upfield.

"Chelsea by contrast are very rarely caught out of position they are very disciplined.

"When you look at Rafael, he always wants to bomb on and get on the ball and do something creative. Chelsea don't have that. Their priority is to sit in and make sure they keep tight and organised."

    MOTD2 Extra

Discussing who will win today's match at Old Trafford.

Daily Telegraph football correspondent Henry Winter: "You can say it is a must win game but Manchester United are playing against Jose Mourinho, who hasn't lost against any of the top four teams since his return to Chelsea.

"Mourinho will set up his tactics brilliantly and his starting XI is better than United's. The atmosphere and culture at United is that they have to win, but that will play into Mourinho's hands, and it is almost set up perfectly for him to ambush them."

BBC Match of the Day commentator Steve Wilson: "Manchester United are a stronger squad in its attack than in defence, and if you attack Chelsea you actually make it easier for them to win. In last season's games against the big four, Chelsea offered a point to all of them, the only ones who attacked them were Manchester City and Liverpool. They tried to win and ended up losing."

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel: "Last year there were seven home defeats, so most United fans would be happy not to lose. Louis van Gaal is only three months in, he has a philosophy and has bought a lot of attacking players, but they are not defending well enough to play for the title."

Jose Mourinho was quick to remind people last season that his Chelsea side did the double over Manchester City and Liverpool, the only two sides to finish above them in the league.

  16. "United won't win this game"published at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

    MOTD2 Extra

Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit: "You have to give Louis van Gaal some time, it's not going to happen overnight because that's just impossible. Jose Mourinho took a year.

"Last season was very disappointing for Mourinho and he wasn't used to that. Chelsea for me are the favourites and I don't think Manchester United are going to win this game. I don't think United will win a trophy this season, Van Gaal is preparing them for next season. He's got the players now up front but he doesn't have them yet at the back and that's his own mistake for not buying any defenders."

  17. "Too early for United"published at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 26 October 2014

    MOTD2 Extra

Former Chelsea manager Ruud Gullit: "The biggest surprise was that Louis van Gaal didn't buy any defenders with the money that he had. Knowing that you have a bad defence and not buying any defenders was a little bit strange. I think Manchester United will have ups and downs but eventually van Gaal will get it right. He's going to get a run and get his points and definitely get into the top four.

"I think for United it is too early to play Chelsea in this game because defensively they are not that good. I think Chelsea are very solid and I like the way they play this year. They are much better because there's more variety and they're more attacking and much more of a unit."

I don't think that Jose Mourinho will give it the forelock-tugging humble servant schtick today that he put on when his Real Madrid side ended Sir Alex Ferguson's final European Cup campaign in 2013.
