"There hasn't really been a lot gone at Simon Mignolet's goal in this second half. That is the reason Alan Pardew has now made the change. Sammy Ameobi can he very frustrating. He does good things but then sometimes does things which are very immature for a professional to do. I think he lost a bit of his touch in the last 10 minutes too. Now we will see what Remy Cabella can do in his place."

That's not a bad effort! By today's standards anyway, Fabio Borini crashing a half-volley wide from 25 yards after good work from Raheem Sterling. They could play all day and not score...

Ben Jenkins:, external The games against Newcastle used to be ones to savour. Many thrilling encounters. This is as insipid as they come.

Adam Byrne:, external Liverpool are awful. A shadow of the team of last season. Where does Brendan Rodgers go from here?

DJ Williams:, external Brendan Rodgers needs to dump his foolish pride and either drop Mario or give him some help.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2014

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes. Remy Cabella comes on for Sammy Ameobi, while Liverpool send on striker Fabio Borini for Joe Allen. That's a positive change. Can he make an impact?

Into the last 25 minutes at St James' Park, where a goal looks elusive. At the moment, completing a six-yard pass seems a big ask for most of them...

Sunday League stuff! Mario Balotelli does well to get away from two or three half-hearted challenges, his touch is then heavy and Daryl Janmaat flattens him with a terrible, wild challenge! High and very late, he's quite lucky to only get a yellow there...

Luton Town find themselves in their loftiest league position for several seasons - and their fans will feel they've earned it after a taxing few years. Seven straight wins have taken the Hatters to the top of the table, and they travel to Exeter today in search of victory number eight. Third-placed Burton Albion begin life after Gary Rowett, who left to become Birmingham manager this week, with a home match against a Plymouth side that have won five out of their last six. "That was probably Liverpool's best move of the game. It was quick and decisive, there was a lovely Steven Gerrard ball and Philippe Coutinho's header was going right in the corner of the goal but a beautiful save from Tim Krul, who pushes it way."

Conor McMeekin:, external Rickie Lambert must be shocking in training if Mario Balotelli gets picked every game, no matter how awful he consistently is.

Patrick Zagar:, external Is Brendan Rodgers blind? Mario is useless by himself, bring on Fabio Borini or Lambert . He's had enough chances by himself.

Kweku Adaboh:, external Brendan, why why why? If your eyes can't see your ears can hear. Don't play Baloteli alone up front!

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 1 November 2014

What a save! The offside flag was up so Liverpool would not have gone ahead, but Tim Krul wasn't to know, He made a flying one-handed save to repel Philippe Coutinho's powerful header. Comfortably the best moment of the game.

There will be two new, yet familiar, faces in the managers' dugouts today. How long they'll stay there is anyone's guess. Neil Redfearn, the Leeds boss, takes his team to Cardiff hoping to fare better than the two coaches owner Massimo Cellino has already sacked this season. Lee Clark - fired two weeks ago by Birmingham City - takes charge at fellow strugglers Blackpool with a home match against Ipswich. At the other end of the table, either Derby or Watford could be top by 5 o'clock. The Rams travel to Brentford, while the Hornets host Millwall.
