Tom Watson, external: Would it not be something of a record if Messi played an entire La Liga match without breaking a record?

John McEnerney, external: The floodgates have opened, Barcelona look like they could score at will now. Real Madrid and Barcelona looking good for El Clasico.

It's a little harsh on Eibar who have given a good account of themselves. But the visitors need to make sure they leave without suffering any further damage. Messi can smell that record and there's still more than 10 minutes remaining plus stoppage time.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:30 British Summer Time 18 October 2014

Only a wonderful double save from Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli stops Serie A leaders Juventus from moving into the lead.

Paul Pogba, who scored the equaliser earlier in the half is denied by a one-handed save, before the follow-up attempt from Carlos Tevez is also pushed wide by the diving keeper.

Hang on, maybe Messi can get the record before El Clasico next week.

The magical Argentine bursts into the Eibar penalty area before producing a beautiful low finish which beats the outstretched hands of the visiting keeper to move to within two goals of becoming La Liga's all-time leading scorer.

For the first time Barca's fans can relax as Neymar volleys home Dani Alves's chip from 12-yards. Quality.

Eibar are not finished. Federico Piovaccari shrugs off his marker just outside the penalty area but his shot is tame. Barca need a second goal.

That was Messi's seventh assist of the league season. The guy knows how to create as well as finish.

It is looking increasingly likely that Lionel Messi is going to have to wait at least another week to become La Liga's all-time leading goalscorer. He can at least console himself that it was his fine pass that finally allowed Barca to breach Eibar's defence. It's been scruffy and unspectacular. But the Catalans are in control.

Just when Barcelona looked to be running out of ideas up pops captain Xavi to chip his side into the lead after Lionel Messi's pass splits the Eibar defence. A rare moment of quality by the hosts.

Barcelona are suffering a post international break hangover. Luis Enrique's side simply haven't got going and have just over half an hour to find a way through a well-drilled Eibar defence. Frowns all around the Nou Camp.

A crunching challenge that could be heard all around Barcelona leaves Sergi Roberto and Lillo sprawled out on the pitch. That's Roberto's last action as Andres Iniesta comes on for the hosts.

Composed, hard-working, creative...Eibar are certainly winning new friends as they go toe-to-toe with one of La Liga's powerhouses.

Well, that didn't last long. Serie A's bottom side are only ahead for six minutes against league leaders Juventus.

Carlos Tevez takes advantage of some hesitant Sassuolo defending, wins the ball and passes it ball back to Paul Pogba, who is on the edge of the penalty area.

The former Manchester United midfielder produces a stunning strike to curl the ball into the far corner of the net. And we're level.

Another chance goes begging for Barcelona.

Messi whips in another delightful free-kick into the Eibar penalty area but Gerard Pique's heads well over from eight-yards out. The big defender should have done much better.

A remarkable story in France where Paris St-Germain striker Edinson Cavani was sent off for his trademark gun celebration and subsequent protest as the French champions beat Lens.

The Uruguayan was booked after bending on one knee and firing an imaginary shot during Friday's 3-1 victory.

He reacted by touching referee Nicolas Rainville's arm, with the official then showing him a red card. PSG president Nasser Al Khelafi backed Cavani and said the 27-year-old "did not deserve" to be dismissed.

He told Canal Plus television: "Why did he get the yellow card before? He always celebrates the same way."
