Spanish La Liga

Earlier, Real Madrid warmed up for their Champions League game at Liverpool next Wednesday with a convincing 5-0 La Liga victory at struggling Levante.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a penalty after Juanfran fouled Javier Hernandez, who then put his side 2-0 ahead with a close-range header. Ronaldo finished off a counter-attack for his 10th goal in four league games.

James Rodriguez then scored from Toni Kroos's through-ball, before Isco added a fifth from outside the penalty area. Real's win lifted them to within a point of leaders Barcelona.

Italian Serie A

They are under way in Italy where it is top versus bottom in Serie A.

Juventus are looking to make it seven league wins out of seven, while Sassuolo are seeking their first win of the season.

How costly will those two chances be for Eibar?

Jeers around the Nou Camp as the teams head off. This is supposed to be Lionel Messi's big night but Eibar are frustrating the Catalans.

Another chance goes begging for Barca. Having spurned a series of good chances, Messi whips in a delicious cross for Xavi but the Spain midfielder is unable to make contact. Frustrating for the hosts.

Barca have just gone past the 11 hour mark without conceding in La Liga. No wonder Carles Puyol looks happy as he looks down from the Nou Camp's VIP seats.

Another chance for Barca but keeper Xabi Iruretagoiena manages to punch clear as Pedro looks to get on the end of a looping cross. There's an air of expectancy inside the Nou Camp. It's all a bit too quiet. They're waiting for some Messi magic.

So close for Messi. A loose ball falls at his feet just inside the Eibar penalty area and he smashes a shot narrowly wide. Barca's No 10 could have had a hat-trick. Could he be feeling the nerves with this record hanging over him?

Eibar arrived at the Nou Camp unbeaten in the previous four games. And the tiny Basque club have come through the opening 24 minutes undamaged.
