Martin O'Neill clocked up seven 'disappointeds' during that brief interview. His side are still well placed to challenge for a place at France 2016 though.
Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill: "I'm naturally disappointed. For the away side we were in reasonable control of the game, we didn't give away too many chances and they scored form a corner.
"It was a really tough game. A derby game as it was considered. It was frenetic, stop start in many aspects and overall I didn't think that we would lose the game. To lose a game on a set-piece is disappointing. We didn't react quickly enough and that was suicidal.
"My first reaction to the Grant Hanley challenge in the first half was that it was a red card but I have not seen any replays since. There may have been another defender to cover but I haven't seen it since.
"Poland have won today, it's a long process but we have seven points on the board. Scotland still have to come to us."
As your reaction on social media shows, it is the Faroe Islands' 1-0 win in Athens that has captured the imagination most tonight.
Kolokk:, external Wow... Faroe Islands beat Greece away? I didn't know that the financial recession has hit their football too.
Niall ODonnell:, external Faroe Isles beating Greece - Hellas Bells!
Matt Rhodes:, external They will be dancing in the streets in the Faroe Islands tonight!
Still no reaction from the Republic of Ireland camp by the way. We'll bring you the views of Martin O'Neill as soon as we hear them. Should Robbie Keane have played?
Cristiano Ronaldo became the record goalscorer in European Championship football as Portugal beat Armenia 1-0 in Faro.
The Real Madrid forward took his tally in qualifying and tournament matches to 23, passing Dane Jon Dahl Tomasson's total with a close-range finish on 71 minutes.
Scotland face England on Tuesday night. Roy Hodgson's men will have to watch that set-piece routine very closely...
Scotland manager Gordon Strachan: "I am a proud man tonight. That was an epic duel. We knew what was going to happen and we dealt with that. It was hard, we kept trying to play and from a Stuart McCall corner kick we scored a goal!
"Stuart had the idea. It was a variation on what we were going to try and it worked, you need to be a great player to score a goal like that. Ireland were a handful all night, it was like a British cup tie. This is the hardest group of them all and one goal decides every game."
Ex-NI defender John O'Neill on BBC Radio Ulster
"There's still first place up for grabs in this group here, we have Romania, Hungary and Greece all to come to Belfast. If we can get ourselves a good result in the next game against Finland, we are right back in the hunt.
"Romania are not going to look forward to coming to Belfast, I can imagine we will cause them a lot more problems because we will have a lot more of the ball that night."
Graham Allen:, external A goal from Shaun Maloney and Scotland worthy of winning any football match!
Femi John:, external Heart vs Quality. No complaints. Fair result. Congrats Scotland.
William Byrne:, external Have to hand it to Strachan. He's building a team and a fortress. Bitterly disappointed!
Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill on Sky Sports: "I think we know we can play better than that, but tonight we came up against a really good side, we defended fantastically well, we could have done better with our chances on the counter attack, and we came within 15 minutes of getting a fantastic result. I couldn't ask for much more from them.
"To be sitting on nine points is testament to the work rate of this group of players. There is an opportunity for us to get 15 more points, and if we can get close to that we'll give ourselves a great chance."
Scotland's next qualifier is a home tie (banker?) against Gibraltar, while the Republic of Ireland face Poland. Beat Poland and the Irish will be back in business.
Scotland keeper David Marshall on Sky Sports: "Ireland put in a lot of crosses. I thought we defended really well."
Match-winner Shaun Maloney: "It was pretty brutal. It wasn't pretty at times. I'm just glad to be on the winning side. You try to pick your spot with the goal. It [Scott Brown's backheel assist] was worked on the training ground, although I'm not sure it was fully like that."
Chris Eastwood:, external Faroe Islands win away in Greece. Where are the people saying they shouldn't be in qualifying? This is a dream for them!
Ross Anderson:, external Greece have now been beaten in successive home games against Northern Ireland and Faroe Island. I smell a sacking.
Tom Garry:, external Greece 0-1 Faroe Islands is an incredible full-time score. The Faroe Islands have a population of less than 50,000 people.
Romania's win lifts them to the top of the table but Northern Ireland are still brilliantly placed in Group F.
Biggles: If you want the Home Nations, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland to contest in Euros / World Cups in future, we collectively need to play each other more! The fight from the lads in Glasgow tonight, you can't buy it! Better than playing dead friendly matches.
The Faroe Islands in the play-offs? You never know.
In their qualifiers for the last World Cup they picked up one point from 10 games. What a win!
Ex-NI defender John O'Neill on BBC Radio Ulster
"The amount of possession Romania had told, and that was the story of the game. When we come to places like this you have got to retain the ball better and not have to resort to last-ditch challenges all the time to keep clean sheets.
"We knew this was going to be a tough game, but Northern Ireland approached the game in the right way, they defended when they had to defend, but you can't over-emphasise how difficult it is to defend for an entire 90 minutes.
"Unless you get a goal or something to hold onto, that's something that's very difficult to do.
"But after the 3-2 defeat in Luxembourg last year, if you had told me we'd have nine points from three away games and one home game, I'd have thought you were crazy."
All to play for in Group D. With two sides qualifying automatically, and one via the play-offs, Poland, Germany, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland are very much all in play.
There are no qualifiers until March now, too.
Former Scotland international Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 live
"An extraordinary night - not the greatest game of football. The better team, the stronger team in the second half was probably Ireland. The one piece of genius play was from Scotland."
