Former Scotland international Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 live
"One thing it was calling for was some intricacy. Straight off the training ground. We were directly behind it and it curled into the bottom corner."
Northern Ireland's resistance is broken as Paul Papp lashes the ball into the top corner with his left foot from 10 yards out. It came from a cross from the left-hand side which Gareth McAuley could not clear. The Romanian was booked for his celebration, but judging from the crowd's reaction, he and his countrymen will not mind too much.
What a goal! Remember when Shaun Maloney scored a big goal for Wigan against Manchester United a few years ago? Similar scenes here as Scotland work a smart corner on the left, Scott Brown lays it back to Maloney and he curls it calmly into the far corner from 15 yards or so. Celtic Park loses it.
So close to the opener! Charlie Mulgrew with a fantastic delivery, brilliant free-kick, and Jon Walters can only head against his own crossbar and away...
Into the last 20 minutes. No goals in either of our featured games. Will that be the way at the final whistle?
We've not seen Robbie Keane yet but Roy Keane is into the action - having an intense conversation with referee Milorad Mazic as they debate the merits of a midfield challenge.
Mr Keane disagreed with the decision it seems...
Things have got worse for coach Claudio Ranieri and Greece - Faroe Islands have taken the lead.
It's 1-0 to the tiny Nordic country thanks to former Newcastle loanee Joan Edmundsson's second international goal. The 23-year-old steered in Brandur Olsen's effort which was going wide.
This will surely be the Faroes' greatest win.
In Nuremberg, Germany are now 4-0 up against Gibraltar following an own goal by Yogan Santos. And in Belgrade, behind closed doors, Denmark have fought back from a goal down to take the lead against Serbia. Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner scored the first and Simon Kjaer has added a second with a header from Tottenham's Christian Eriksen's delivery.
Ex-NI defender John O’Neill on BBC Radio Ulster
"In the games I played for Northern Ireland, we had many games like this when we were backs to the wall at away grounds where there is an intense atmosphere.
"But the manager used to say to us, 'Enjoy defending, this is what you do and this is what you're paid for. Enjoy the defending and enjoy the hostility', and I hope that's what the boys out there are feeling."
Twenty-two minutes left in Bucharest. A goalless draw would be a fine result indeed in their pursuit of qualification...
Two changes for the Irish - neither of whom is Robbie Keane.
To Hull and back for Martin O'Neill as Robbie Brady and Stephen Quinn are on for Darron Gibson and Shane Long. Jon Walters up front.
You wonder if anyone will get a better chance to break the deadlock than Chris Martin. It looked a banker...
Derby manager Steve McClaren will be keeping a close eye on proceedings at Celtic Park, as Andy in Derby highlights: Chris Martin up against team mate Richard Keogh in the Scotland v Republic of Ireland game - good Derby presence with Jeff Hendrick on the pitch and Cyrus Christie and Johnny Russell on the bench.
What a chance! He has to score! Scotland should be ahead as Steven Naismith drives into the penalty area from the right, he stays on his feet and picks out sub Chris Martin.
Martin has the whole goal to aim at - but drags it wide!
Chris Martin's first touch sees him skim a header over the top. Nerves certainly in the air now, the first half to-and-fro has subsided as the hosts realise they need a win and the visitors look more content with a point. Twenty-five to go.
Seamus Coleman is booked for blocking off the overlap from Andrew Robertson. Into the last half hour at Celtic Park, it's looking more and more like a 0-0 as the clock wears on.
The Robbie Keane joker card is still to be played though...
Former Scotland international Pat Nevin on BBC Radio 5 live
"What a shot by Aiden McGeady - that was a great save by the goalkeeper. Ireland are having their best spell of the game and they are not playing as much long-ball football."
'I just can't get enough' by Depeche Mode is the terrace chant of the moment at Celtic Park, but the second half has been a disappointing sequel so far.
But that's a good effort, Aiden McGeady showing wonderful technique to crack in a low half-volley which David Marshall has to push away.
Can it get any worse for Greece coach Claudio Ranieri? Following his side's home defeat by Northern Ireland during the last qualifiers, the Euro 2004 champions are now being held 0-0 by world number 187 Faroe Islands, who have yet to pick up a point in Group F. If the Greeks fail to win then that will be one point from four games. How much longer will the Italian hang on to his job?
Away from the internationals, there are two games bubbling along in the Football League this evening.
In League One, Sam Winnall gave Barnsley an early lead at Oakwell against Colchester, but Sanchez Watt hit back for the away side after 14 minutes. 1-1 there.
And it is the same scoreline one division below, where Ivan Toney gave Northampton the lead at Cambridge, but the home side replied straight away - Adam Cunnington with the U's goal less than 90 seconds after the restart.
