Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert on the BBC: "We are unbeaten in four and have and won at a difficult place. Coming here was a massive result but I thought it was well deserved.

"I thought it was a big, big performance. I have played with some world class strikers and Christian Benteke, if he keeps progressing, could be one of the best. The performance was massive for us.

"We are up to 12th, we have had a lot of players out, so the progress is there. I understand the disappointment because Aston Villa are a huge, huge football club.

    "We were resolute."

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew: "Absolutely delighted with that - we didn't play in the first half and Burnley had a lot to do with that. We didn't risk enough. We took risks in the second half and were a different class.

"It's as good a point we've got all season. The pitch was difficult tonight - it was was slippery and slidy."

    Newcastle goalscorer Papiss Cisse:

"The first half was very, very difficult. Before the second half the gaffer told the players they need to play. Well done for my team trying to play. The changes [substitutions that saw Remy Cabella and Steven Taylor come on] helped the team."

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: "It was not our best performance. We were not aggressive enough in the first half, we didn't keep our position on the pitch. I was not pleased at half time - and I told them. The second half was better, we created more chances but we need to score more goals.

"Then Peter Crouch comes on, you know the long balls are coming and it is always difficult. But I'm pleased we held this result. The last few moments were not necessary but it is always like that. We have struggled until the end in the Premier League - it is common.

"I'm happy with the result - tomorrow we have a Christmas party and it's important we can enjoy that."

On Wayne Rooney and Angel Di Maria's injuries: "Wayne has a scan tomorrow and then we will know more. I'm pleased Di Maria's injury is not so heavy. We've got more players coming back and we can see a little more light in the tunnel."

  6. 'Burnley's a six-pointer'published at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2014

Harry Redknapp tells Sky Sports: "Our keeper was in good form and had to be. He's been outstanding for us. They are a good team and I like the way they play but we conceded late goals again and it cost us.

"We had a good chance just before half-time and the longer it went on you think you might nick it.

"We have got a massive game at home to Burnley on Saturday which is a real six-pointer. If we can get a win like we did last Saturday it will have been a good week."

Swansea City manager Garry Monk speaking to Andy Gilles: "I thought it was a very complete performance and we pushed them hard from the outset.

"If it wasn't for their keeper producing some great saves, we'd have been a few up before half time.

"It's very pleasing for the players, a clean sheet, two goals and three points."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "I think it's good times. The journey continues. I know it's a tough journey.

"Newcastle are in a rich vein of form apart from the blip on Saturday. Even after giving away a poor goal we were still playing on the front foot. We were very good in the first half. We know we have to be clinical and take chances.

"We believe in performances. Performances bring wins. Another good point, but just a point."

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: "It was a great victory, players were magnificent. We had to work very hard but our quality came through in the end.

"We should have won in Europe. Three good performances. I have big trust in the players. We needed to pick up the standard again.

"Steven Gerrard was rested last weekend with tonight in mind. When you rest a player people ask why. When you play them you are asked why aren't you resting them. The energy from being rested at the weekend gave him the energy to play tonight."

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson, speaking to BT Sport: "We can ill-afford to play any game with anything less than 11 v 11. Their third goal knocked the stuffing out of us. We have quality and commitment. We can't get downbeaten by tonight's result. We have to break the cycle we are in at the moment.

"I had a spat with a fan towards the end. I don't know what they are looking at at times. If they cannot see the players are having a proper go maybe they need to stay at home. The players are giving everything. I will always look for the positives. It is very easy for people to look at what we are not good at.

"I don't like the commitment of my players being questioned. If they honestly think they are not committed, they are very wrong. Maybe that is why I stay in the stand."

  15. Manager reactionpublished at 21:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2014

Garry Monk told BBC Sport: "We had to stay patient but I thought it was one of our most complete performances of the season.

"Their keeper had a fantastic game and you do think 'will it be our day?'

"But I said to the players at half-time to stay patient and keep playing the same way and the chances will come.

"They did and we killed it off with two good goals. The performance warranted a clean sheet and those two goals."

More from Stoke City manager Mark Hughes: "We're in a period now where a few injuries have been affecting us.

"We're not getting turned over by anyone. We're a good team and we're competitive in this league and I'm sure that's what we'll be able to do now that we move in to a busy period of the season."

David in Manchester: Fellaini and Mata a good investment after all, cheers Moyes. Good result, De Gea, world Class!

James in Macclesfield: Cracking result for United tonight. Missing Jones, Shaw, Rafael, blind, Rooney and Di Maria who would all start if fit. Think Chelsea would struggle with that injury list!

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard on BT Sport, when asked about signing a new deal: "I will decide when I am ready.

"There is nothing to say, when there is the fans know I will come out and say it. It was a great team performance, the headlines should be about that not me.

"I am happy with the goal, even more pleased with the win. We are on the way up. We are a lot harder to beat. Come the end of the season we will be fighting for fourth."
