Vinny Person: West Brom desperately short of goals and they keep dropping the most natural English goalscorer since Jermain Defoe and Michael Owen? Strange call.

Saido Berahino has scored seven Premier League goals for West Brom this season but is a substitute today.

"I'm worried about Burnley - I don't think they have the firepower to survive in this league. Southampton will see this as a three point banker. But if Saints don't put the Clarets to bed I think we can genuinely ask them some questions."

"Southampton had a fantastic start and got themselves up to third. They have played some top sides in their last three matches and lost and now they need to get back to winning ways."

Charles Egar: Why would anyone prefer Ramires to Jon Obi Mikel for the defensive midfield role (see 14:33)? Mikel provides stability to the team.

Rian Hoskins: Surprised Mikel starts ahead of Ramires but this is where we could see Oscar drop deeper. Glad Filipe Luis and Petr Cech get starts.

Harry Pannell: Mikel is a very solid player. He gives us depth, and we'll have no problem today. What is everyone going on about?

"Sergio Aguero is out, so City should park that. Manuel Pellegrini should focus on Edin Dzeko, and what a great opportunity for him. He's been out of favour and his nose has been put out of joint, so what a great chance for him now."

"Joe Hart is responding to pressure from (substitute goalkeeper) Willy Caballero and responding very well. His form has been outstanding, and now there is talk of a new contract, when last year all the talk was about his dip in form. And in terms of Hart's position as England goalkeeper, Fraser Forster is turning into a real contender. I worked with Fraser when he was a kid - when he was only six foot seven! He has been so good for Southampton, playing in the Premier League week in week out has really benefited him."

Bojan's been pretty special in recent weeks, hasn't he? He's the Lionel Messi of the Britannia these days, and manager Mark Hughes is chuffed with his charge.

"He wasn't affecting games in the manner we would have liked initially, but that was to be expected," said Hughes. "We can't get too carried away because there is still a lot more to come from him, and that is exciting.

"He didn't come in here in the summer wanting a 12 month contract - he made a big commitment to us, just as we made one to him too. He needed that stability (of a four-year deal) to be effective in the Premier League and for us.

"It's still early days. He's only had five or six games at the level he needs to be but he's playing with a smile on his face, his team-mates understand what he can give them and he helps as well with his work ethic - and he's a good kid."

Stamford Bridge is beginning to fill up as we tick towards kick-off in the Premier League. Nemanja Matic and Jon Mikel Obi in central midfield - is that a slightly weak link? Solid, but creative enough to break down a spirited Hull defence?

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka, speaking to Sky Sports: "We didn't give them any chance to score and we had I don't know how many chances to score, so I am very pleased. For my players as always but also for my staff, because they deserved a day like today. I was not on the bench and they were all week preparing the game. It could have been difficult but I trust them 200%."

Derby County's defeat at Middlesbrough means that Ipswich Town will go top of the Championship table should they win away at Bolton Wanderers. Mick McCarthy's men have won five of their last six league games. Should they fail to win then Bournemouth will return to the summit with a handsome victory over Cardiff City.

At the bottom, Blackpool, fresh from victory over Birmingham, could climb to within five points of safety if they make it back-to-back wins at Charlton Athletic. Rotherham United could drop into the bottom three if they lose and other results don't go their way. Malky Mackay's Wigan Athletic, 23rd in the table, are at Watford.

  17. Who is Jake Hesketh?published at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2014

Southampton have handed 18-year-old midfielder Jake Hesketh his first senior start for the club for the game at Burnley today.

Hesketh came on as a substitute in Monday's defeat by Manchester United and could be another talent rolled off the Saints production line.

According to the club's website he is "a stylish midfielder who likes to control the play" and "models his game on Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta".

He joined the south-coast club aged eight after being spotted in a local tournament and signed professional terms in May 2014.

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Kelly, Dann, Hangeland, Ward, Jedinak, McArthur, Ledley, Zaha, Bolasie, Chamakh.

Stoke XI: Begovic; Bardsley, Shawcross, Wilson, Pieters; Nzonzi, Cameron; Diouf, Krkic, Walters; Crouch.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini meanwhile makes five changes to the side who triumphed 2-0 in Rome on Wednesday.

Pablo Zabaleta is replaced by Bacary Sagna, captain Vincent Kompany returns in place of Martin Demichelis while Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and David Silva are restored in place of James Milner, Jesus Navas and Fernandinho.
