A mistake by Chelsea allows PSG to embark on a counter, but it is not a flowing one and poor passing allows Chelsea to recover before Blaise Matuidi's cross is held by Thibaut Courtois.

"Both defences are playing exactly the same. Both drop off once their teams lose possession, not allowing any space behind for any of the dangerous strikers.

"In the last 10 minutes Zlatan is seeing a lot of the ball and is really starting to become an influence."

All very chess-like as Chelsea slowly try to build an attack, after a couple of nervy moments in defence, passing across the middle, patiently searching for an opening. None forthcoming so far.

Thiago Silva clatters into Diego Costa as the two challenge for the ball. Classic Thiago, but the referee gives the free-kick in PSG's favour. A rare moment of action for Costa, with Chelsea having plenty of defending to do so far.

Brandon Clarke: Luiz is comfortable on the ball and not scared of a challenge. I'm backing him to perform the 'Makelele' role perfectly tonight.

Mark Wilkins: I'm not a Chelsea supporter but I think they'll have a little too much for PSG, even in Paris...

Rohith Reddy J: Quality all over the pitch for both teams. Congested midfield. Excellent defences.

Edinson Cavani has been lively in these opening stages, heavily involved in PSG's best attacking play. He's been in good form in the Champions League so far this season and he could well be the difference tonight.

The home crowd have responded to those two chances and are in full voice. It's a very intimidating atmosphere at the Parc des Princes for the visitors.

Again, PSG come forward as Edinson Cavani tries to send Gregory Van der Wiel away down the right, but the ball is too heavy and goes out of play.

No goals in the Championship yet but League One leaders Bristol City have made the perfect start to the evening with the opening goal at Ashton Gate against Peterborough. Aden Flint with the goal. George Ray has scored his second goal of the season for Crewe to give them a 1-0 lead at Doncaster. It is 0-0 everywhere else, including in the night's sole League Two game between Mansfield and Luton.

"Two great saves from Courtois. Wonderful in the box from Matuidi, and an early warning there for Chelsea. PSG obviously love getting forward."

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:59 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2015

And again from Thibaut Courtois as he reacts well to deny a point-blank Zlatan Ibrahimovic effort. A warning for Chelsea that this will not be easy.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2015

Suddenly, PSG come alive! Edinson Cavani lifts the ball into the area for the unmarked Blaise Matuidi, whose rasping header is palmed away by Thibaut Courtois.

PSG have identified Chelsea's main dangerman, with Eden Hazard being given no space at all. As soon as the ball comes out to him, he is swarmed by at least two opposition players. Just under 10 minutes in and no chances for either side. Cagey.

Jose Mourinho scribbles down some notes as his side ventures forward, Nemanja Matic attempting to forge a path through midfield. He runs into a PSG-shaped wall, but Chelsea quickly win back possession.

Sam in London: This has 1-1 written all over it. A typical away Mourinho performance beckons.

Grant: Luiz is no more a defensive midfielder than he is a defender - zero positional discipline.

Jake Easton: Costa has had time to sit back and watch his side for a few weeks and get himself ready for a big game. It's a shame Luiz isn't in defence as he would have had him in his back pocket all night! PSG 1-2 Chelsea.

Laurent Blanc at Man UtdImage source, Empics

"PSG boss Laurent Blanc came to us at Manchester United at the tail end of his career. Sir Alex taught us to learn off him. He spoke very little English, but I can tell you he soon picked up every single swear word in our language!"

Huge boos for Eden Hazard whenever he touches the ball in these early stages, the winger having spent five years at PSG's league rivals Lille before joining Chelsea.

PSG are the first to test the Chelsea defence as Gregory Van der Wiel gets away down the right, but his cross goes out of play.

"I think Zlatan is misunderstood. David Beckham told me that he is the most incredible trainer, a real professional. He has a little arrogance about him, maybe, but he has never scored against a Mourinho side. He'll want to put that right tonight.

"He's quick, with a great touch in both feet and brilliant in the air. He is so strong, he can bully you, and he has everything needed to beat a defender."
