"Who recruits Manchester City's players? What do they look for to make Manchester City serious Champions League contenders?

"I like watching City but at Champions League level they are so lacking.

"Have they got a team geared to win the Premier League? They are a physical side rather than a technical side. I think with the Champions League you need more than a physical presence."

"I think Manuel Pellegrini's time will be up. Would Diego Simeone leave Atletico Madrid or Carlo Ancelotti leave Real Madrid? That's the kind of manager I would look at for City."

Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp: "We were too harmless. If you don't shoot on goal, you can't score.

"Every minute the opponent gained in confidence and we ended up having none. Juve were simply better than us, but they also had the perfect start after three minutes."

"I think there are too many excuses going around for Manchester City. They have to do better than they have done, surely?

"It would have been nice to see some of them trying a bit harder in terms of work-rate and desire.

"I think City have got to make some drastic changes.

"Vincent Kompany has been the best defender for the last three years and needs a regular partner. Would you get rid of Kompany and have a completely fresh start? I don't know.

"He needs to get his head right. His performances have been so poor by his standards.

"Yaya Toure has been taken off in consecutive games. What's his future?"

  7. City restricted?published at 22:18 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2015

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "All of us wanted to continue, we need to improve in Europe and maybe in the last two years we did improve. We have gone through to the last 16 and we were very unlucky we played against Barcelona, but at least we qualified [for the knockout stages].

"I also think it was not our best year to continue in Europe because of [Financial Fair Play] restrictions with the amount of players and money so it was difficult in that sense."

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini: "I think we lost against a better team without doubt. Lionel Messi is very difficult to contain. Maybe we didn't play so well in the first half but we improved in the second and we took risks.

"We needed to score two goals and we thought it might happen had we scored the penalty. That was a very important moment because we had 15 minutes more to play ."

"So for 2nd time in 3 seasons, no PL clubs in last 8 of CL. Why? No winter break? FFP hit PL harder than Spa/Ger with more homegrown players or just cyclical maybe? One thing certain; £5bn TV deal mean PL will feel ready to finally compete with RM/Barca for very best talent."

The final whistles have blown on our three Football League matches.

In the Championship, Nottingham Forest closed to within eight points of the play-off places with a 2-0 victory over Rotherham, brilliant strikes by Dexter Blackstock and Michail Antonio proving the difference.

At Craven Cottage, Leeds made it five away win from six as goals from Sam Byram, Sol Bamba and Mirco Antenucci condemned Fulham to a 3-0 defeat. Kostas Stafylidis was dismissed for two cautions for Fulham, who now have just one win in 13.

Burton now lead the way by five points in League Two after an impressive 2-1 win over Southend. The hosts were losing 1-0 to a Barry Corr goal and down to 10 men after Robbie Weir's red card, but Matt Palmer levelled early in the second half before Abdenasser El Khayati popped up with an 89th-minute winner.
